Any recommendations for a good shocker for the front of a roadgoing hillclimb car?
And at what atage do I need to change to shorter shocks due to lowering? Suppose the best way is to measure the distance between mounts?

SPAX or GAZ are both very good.
Don't know about lowered cars as I always raise mine slightly.

Give AVO due consideration (Based in Northampton). Rebuildable and can be valved to your spec.I've used them for seasons - Lowered type (steel bodied) on my Se7en. Around £75/per corner.

I can't recommend SPAX based on personal usage. Absolute rubbish.
