Just a rant really, I've owned my beloved Chimi for two years and one month now.
Apart from repairs upgrades the car has been my daily driver, cruiser and dog carrying rocket ship.
15,000 miles without a blip, I'm a liar but she's been great really.

I decided to sorn her until spring about 7 days ago!!!

Excruciating pain is what I feel, not joy that I'm protecting my chassis or any of that, just pain.

Ok ignoring my pain pain and pain, all of a sudden just because I can't drive her she looks fabulous, the exhaust tail pipes excite me, the engine bay, you'd open the bonnet just for a peak, the Tvr stitched into the headrests, the dash, I could go on all day and probably will but I only felt like this the first day I got her
After spending a fortune and not feeling that rewarded,,,,,,,,, all of a sudden I do.

All of a sudden I miss the power,,,,,, of which I never use, the rifle bolt gearbox, the doors opening???!

You always want what you can't have.
She's all insured etc but I'm trying to be prudent for once.
Does anyone else get these withdrawal symptoms.
I feel like I love the car more by the day and can't bloody wait to drive it again.
Mad mad cars.

Not often.
I've only ever sorned once, and that was owing to it being off the road for the engine rebuild when the MOT came due, so couldn't tax it when it expired.
I have always driven it all year every year.
Less frequently in winter I grant you, but the old girl needs her legs stretching regularly.
It's cruel to lock them away like that Alun.

I'm sharing your pain. I moved home earlier this year and decided to put my Chimp onto seasonal license plates for the first time which means I am now only permitted to drive my her from March - November. Now I find myself doing stupid things however like re-painting rocker covers, polishing bits etc just so I have an excuse to go down to the garage, sneak a peek and be near her. Roll on Summer when I can hear the sweet roar of those tail pipes again! Can't wait.

Right I've just about stopped the tears flowing, yeah it does give you the time to do a job properly and really clean them up.
Bill I'm with you on that one and its only because Im feeling worried about the riggers. As soon as there replaced or checked properly (body lift) and re painted with twenty coats then she's back to doing what she does best, starting and moving along with great abandon every single day!

I'm nearly fifty and I have to look at her oh I dunno at least three times a day, how barking is that!

Woof woof.

I only didn't go out in mine 30 minutes ago because I wasn't utterly convinced that 120 kg of horse feeds would fit in the boot........the chaff is rather bulky for its weight.

Its a big boot! My old mate reckons he worked for an Irishman who removed the front seat to get deisel barrels in his Merc!!!
I felt a tit but drove 130 miles back from Peters with two wheels and tyres in the boot and two in the passenger seat. Lots of room in them, you'd almost call them practical.

So Anthony you could teach me to ride, its a flipping big horse if Im right!
I was ok on a motor bike if that helps!

No no only joking. Yeah you realise what this weather does to all animal owners, difficult time of year.

What's his name Anthony. You have told me I'm sure but my brain only retains Tvr facts these days!

I never got this SORN lark. What's it save, about a ton?

I'd rather swallow the £4 per week & have her available 24/7!

Talk about Part-Time Petes hehe

It is rather daft, I think I've actually done it so I can't drive it and then maybe I'll get underneath it a bit more!
The point was really just about how much more I appreciate the car. Its a bit like before I owned one, a massive great privilege. We should never forget.

I do that every track day - go to the venue on my road wheels and change to SP12s/888s at the track when I can see its dry enough.
The two 18 inch rear wheels go neatly upright, side by side, on the front seat, the 17 inch fronts in the boot with the tools/jack etc
Got myself some covers of the Bay of Fleas - absolutely ace:

I know Chilli I've read, just wasn't anything I could add to help.
The fact you work away must have your emotions up and down more often than a tarts knickers anyway!
It really is like leaving your girlfriend with your best mate.
I worked away for years and there's alot of comittment needed, all you want to do is get near the old girl and sort her issues!
I've never been into this love thing with cars,,,,,,,, that's bks I had two fantastic Jags and lavished them!?!
Its the Tvr that has made me feel like a leg is missing if I'm away from her.

Chilliwizzkidman, I'm thinking of going back to a similar work situation but its the Tvr that stops me, I can be away from family, mates , racing even the dog but I'm full of dread at the thought of being miles from the beast!

A few months ago I wasn't sure how I felt about the Chimp, even a few wks ago but its just hit me how important that energy is to me.
fk it I'm going to marry her.

I must admit, I avoid taking mine out in the wet, but I would never sorn it. I will always look for a day when the roads are dry and then go out in it at least once a week. Everything you read about these cars tells you that leaving them standing for long periods doesn't do them any favours.

You could try leaving your girlfriend with me, Alun, but I suspect my lovely, tolerant, thoughtful, sweet natured wife (who even came and passengered on the TVRCC track day with me) might just think it one step too far.......on the other hand, she would probably get her down the stables and teach her to ride.....!

My horse is called Piper, if you remember from meeting him last April, and he's only 15hh 3. It's his "Bassfiend" build that makes him seem bigger. Get y'arse over here in the summer and i will happily teach you the rudiments of walk, trot, canter and gallop. Full gallop on 700 kg of horse is quite similar to full chat into the esses at Snetterton. I always select the brown jodhpurs.....

I agree totally, I'm almost more worried about other issues showing up for leaving her stood still!
No I've got to get her up in the air and strip out the four corners etc. I want to know its water tight and I do mean the chassis.
There is a side of me that loves squeaky clean supercars but I like driving them even more so once I'm confident then I'll not sorn her again. Its all a waste of time anyway!

Leaving beastie is hard... and emotional... But it's also like having a break up with the girlfriend... it's crap when it happens, but when it blows over and she wants to make it up to you.... it's fecking awesome....
