Now that the honeymoon period is over what are your thoughts on each console?
Do you favour one over the other, if so why?

Thank you

I've got both consoles and I've always preferred xboxs but this time the ps4 comes out on top, when I'm playing on the one it feels as if I'm playing on a inferior machine due to the graphics differences between the two. Some may not say they are not noticeable but when I'm playing on my 55inch it becomes easily visible.

I've never liked the playstation pads but this time the ps4 pad actually feels a lot better and sturdier where as the one pad feels cheap.

The kinect on the xbox also doesn't work as good and is abit gimmicky but a lot of the time I use voice commands their is background noise.

Overall the PS4 comes out on top and this is coming from someone who's always preferred xboxes.

Interested to hear peoples opinions as I really dont know which one to get first, I am thinking PS4 mainly because Drive Club looks quite good and Forza does not seem very good on the xbone.
My biggest issue is the controllers as I use a Xbox converter on my PS3 at present as I really struggle with the left thumbstick on the PS controller and prefer the meatiness and better triggers of the xbox controller as well.

I can only hope an alternative PS4 pad is made or a converter becomes available.

The PS4 pad is not the same as the PS3 pad.

Oh that does look a lot better will have to try one, I just find especially for driving games I get better control with my thumb in the xbox position but the size of the 4 pad looks a big improvement.

I used to get cramp using PS3 pad for driving games but use a wheel for them now.
I use the PS3 pad for other types of game without issue though (I suppose it is where it gets gripped hard during driving games).

It's funny. I've always preferred the PS3 controllers over the Xbox 360 as I found that they fitted better in my hands. However having owned a PS4 for the past month, the new Dualshock 4 controllers are a massive improvement. So much so that when firing up my PS3 today for some GTA V, the controllers felt horrible. Small, uncomfortable, loose thumb sticks, etc. I never thought I'd say it, but I can see why people didn't like the PS3 controllers now.

I've got both.

Neither get used really. I've played more xbox so far, but neither got turned on once over xmas.

When the games start coming out I think it'll be easier to pick between them but at the moment all the games look pretty good and both interfaces are quite nice (although I prefer the PS4 in that respect).

I'd like to think this thread will keep getting updated as new games come out and we can start seeing a difference between the 2 machines. I'm still waiting on a decision for which to get, as I dont think either of them have convinced me one way or another.

That could be a good idea to keep this running so we can compare games and the platforms without fanboy bhing.

Those numbers are not far off sales figures to be honest, between them they sold 7.1 million units last year 4.1 PS4s (58%) and 3 xbones (42%). Although you could argue that being US-centric you would have expected a lean towards the xbone from an IGN poll.

I have neither but would be tempted by a PS4 out of the two.

I still prefer the PS4 despite very little use on each. The xbox UI feels like a giant advert, and the controller isn't as nice to hold.

Games look very similar on both, so I guess it's probably down to what your mates have, and what exclusives you want to play?

The Playstation 4 definitely looks better in your front room, aesthetically it's more pleasing. It's a shame to see that Sony are still labouring on with their ancient game pad design. It was fine twenty years ago(!) but it hasn't moved with the times. The new pad is definitely the best effort yet, though it still feels very cheap and tatty. Slack sticks and cheapo buttons are a turn off. Though I'm not entirely happy with the XB1 pad being so much lighter than the old one, it still has the 'hewn from granite' feel of the first Xbox pad in terms of controls but it misses the weight.

Other than that though, it's a fairly close call. The XB1 currently has the better game lineup and will for some time, as the PS4 misses out on Titanfall and Dead Rising 3. At the moment, I'd say DR3 is the only thing which feels 'next gen' due to the scale and scope of it. Ryse is undoubtedly the best looking game of the launch titles and it is genuinely beautiful, but the crowd physics of DR3 are what please me most. Killer Instinct is also very easy on the eye but I felt like Tekken 3 was the peak of the beat 'em up genre and they've never really grabbed me since. The XB1 has the more appealing exclusives to me though I will probably check out Uncharted and Drive Club, if Drive Club is any good.

I think both consoles could have done with being held back for six months. It would have allowed more refinement and more game development. It's ended up with a fairly silly 'who shoots first' situation where both consoles have came out with a small handful of games available and a long wait before anything else! Currently it's looking like Thief for the end of February and Titanfall afterwards. The PS4 landscape looks a little more arid at present, though I'm sure something will be along shortly. It really comes down to what your friends have, if you play online, or what exclusives you prefer if you don't.

Regarding the current states of the home screens/dash boards, I really like the way the XB1 home screen looks and functions as it's a lot like the Windows Phone system. The PS4 home screen is also a pretty looking thing and operates in a fairly similar way. However, as I've said before, it won't be long until the dashboards change beyond all recognition with a system update. They evolve quickly and now, they'll evolve quicker than ever. Remember this?

However, next generation gaming discussion should be put on hold, because Dark Souls 2 releases soon and nothing else matters!

Really didn't like the 360 dashboard after the avatars got involved. The XB1's dash is beautiful though. Not quite sure what the person above claiming it's like an advert is on about. Nor do I understand what the first response is on about regarding the Kinect because it works perfectly regardless of how loud the TV is. I was sceptical about the voice controls at first but being without it would now feel like quite a step back.

As for that IGN stuff, all it takes is a look on YouTube to see that Sony fan boys rule the internet - of coarse the final number represents the ratio of consoles sold, people will just be voting for their own console!
