Apologies if this has been done to death - I did search this topic but the most relevant discussions were from 2007.

I am wondering if there is any difference between a Shell/BP standard petrol or diesel vs the supermarket equivalents. Obviously the Shell/BP Nitro/Megamax/Turboboost varieties have had additives put in so I am wondering about the bog standard fuels.

They are made to British standards aren't they? So a standard diesel is the same whether its from Shell or Sainsburys?

A mechanic recently advised me to run my 2 litre Volvo oil burner on non supermarket diesel. It was surging under acceleration and this seems to have disappeared since we stopped using supermarket diesel - possibly answering my own question!

I think that Diesel is often different - I remember hearing a while back that Morrisons put a higher percentage of biofuel in their Diesel, which as a result could cause some cars to get upset. I wonder if other supermarkets are the same?

It has been done to death. The last thread I recall had someone who worked as a delivery driver for a refinery, and said they all fill up from the same 'tap' and add their own additional detergents / additives.

That said, I'll never put ASDA fuel in my cars if I can help it - i always get poor performance on ASDA fuel.

My daily snotter x-type does not like Morrison's. Tends to chug badly as it warms up. Other SMs are fine.

I alternate between Esso and Sainsbury's and not noticed any difference, UL or super.

I tend to use Tesco in both the car and the bike, it's nearest to me now, and has pay at pump. Noticed no change from the shell they used to be constantly fed.
