Tony Pond TT course video
Discussion
I remember watching him on the Lombard rally as a Rover driver, and found this video....
Must have had his brave head on that day...

Much respect to Mr Pond, but it's such a shame that whenever a car gets to go round marketing wins the day and it's such an utterly pants car. The Rover Vitesse was, even in its time, a potting shed on wheels and the Impreza that went round recently merely a warmed over saloon. If you look at the hill climb times for cars over stretches of the TT Course they're bonkers fast - way quicker than the bikes. Maybe I answered my own question there...

Lhergy Frissel hill climb fastest time of the day up the course for me one year in my Westfield, but I couldn't quite keep up with the bikes practising for the TT on the drive back to Douglas over Snaefell.Twisty bits are much quicker in a car.

without wishing to state the obvious, but there are cars capable of the 200mph top speed of the bikes that are just as capable as a westfield in the twisties.Twisty bits are much quicker in a car.
The bikers don't like it when you mention that though...

Ah - apologies for my momentary slip there. Of course, the TT course is way too bumpy for cars, and bikes are much better at handling bumps as they have two wheels and are far more stable. There's also a force field around the Bray Hill area that bikes slip through but cars get snarled up in, not to mention the magic rabbits on the mountain section. I apologise, I'm very wrong in my assumption.
You forgot to mention "threading the needle".I was there watching from Hilberry for the first attempt. Car had some lowered suspension, a noisy exhaust (was pretty loud as it went by) and I 'think' it may have been on slicks, for safety. Missed it by a few tents of an mph, iirc, but was a brilliant effort, he was pretty flat passed us kissing both bankings!
He became my favourite ever rally driver, and he was seriously good. Proper loss to the sport.
