Sore chest

I caught a bit of a chesty cough about a week ago. For the past three days I've had aches all over my body, but in particular in my chest. It hurts to take deep breaths and my chest feels and sounds rough, and I feel exhausted in general and have been sleeping a lot. Do you think this will clear up or is it something I have to bother the doctor with?

Sounds like a chest infection. Probably best to visit the doctor and more than likely they will prescribe an antibiotic.

It may clear itself but it will take a while and it's best to be on the safe side by visiting the doctor.

That does sound like a chest infection - or at least like the ones I've had - speak to your GP but be prepared for it to take a minimum of 48 hours before you start feeling better if you do get prescribed antibiotics.

Have you checked for a gunshot wound you haven't noticed?

I'm just getting over a cold which 'went to my chest' - i.e. I coughed a helluva lot, so much that I ended up with a very sore chest for a couple of days. I still feel snotty but at least my chest is feeling better as it was really painful when straining for a dump.

There's a nasty respiratory virus doing the rounds at the moment. Antibiotics will be useless against this.

Rest, warmth, and fluids are what you need.

Thanks all. I checked with the doctors surgery and the soonest appointment they had was two weeks away anyhow, so I'll just wait for it to clear up by itself.

Two weeks for an appointment is horrific...here's me moaning about having to wait 2 hours in the surgery to be seen.
