Yes, in fact I remember Whitmarsh saying exactly that.

Although, when it was first announced that Vodafone would end their sponsorship, McLaren said the new title sponsor would be unveiled on December 2nd, 2013. So at some point, there has been a change of plan.

Change was announced before the end of the season, the announcement was being delayed until the car launch.

And to the OP. All teams sell of team wear cheap at the end of the year, its hardly becaus they're short of cash. A few cheap t-shirts won't make a difference to next seasons budget....

I used to get loads of Ferrari gear for about 10% of retail - they sold it through places like Shell HQ as a sponsor initiative.

Those in the 'know' believe that 2014 will be an interim year with the Honda partnership hailing a new principle 'Partner' for a five year deal. It won't be Samsung......they ruined their F1 credentials years ago and are happy with Soccer.
