Hi all,

please move this mods if it's in the wrong place, couldn't decide finance or homes...

We just changed our home insurance to admiral. massive mistake- cheapest quote rapidly became more expensive when talking to the nice lady on the phone to close the deal, and then i'm being hit for a charge for each valuation i send in by email for stuff like paintings, jewellery etc (note- we do not have lots of assets, just a couple of nice things).

Can anyone recommend an alternative before i go on moneysupermarket... we're in a nice street in a "bad" postcode in south london, victorian house, all i know at this stage is come back LV and i will never select admiral again, their business model is not one i'm ok with (lowball quote, pile on essential "extras", hammer you for every communication etc etc).

Thanks

I assume this is contents only, not buildings insurance nor a combination of the two.

We've used Axa(and their predecessor acquired companies) for the past 25 years or more solely because of what we think you are looking for. May not be the cheapest but their policy suits us and their customer service has been excellent.

Why not go back to LV if you liked them before?

For the first time I'm sticking with our insurance provider (Aviva) for the house and cars and not even looking at the 'cheapest'. I've been so impressed with them this year that they have earnt my business for another year.

Normally like most people I would hunt out the cheapest deal but thats not always the best thing (as you are finding out).

Thanks all, based on a recommendation from a friend, we did move our cover, to halifax- got increased cover, inc accident cover, and no additional cost for monthly payments. Good to know there are more recommendations and a broker on here too. I will bear this in mind next Jan.

Yes, you've found a good insurer there. Halifax are one of the best!
