I currently have a Sonos bridge wired directly to router and a play 3 in the same room. I am pretty much fixed to leaving the router in this room.

I am keen to expand to other zones but by experimenting (moving my current play 3 around the house) I'm finding that I cant get further than the next room before I get the "no players found" error.

I don't stay in a castle and though its an old house I expected slightly better coverage. I'm guessing there is little I can do to improve the current set up however with the free bridge offer still showing on some websites I'm wondering if I can use the additional bridge as an "extender"

ie: bridge - bridge - play3

Also is the signal to/from a bridge any better than a play device?

AFAIK I believe you can just use the bridge as an extender. There shouldn't be any difference in the WiFi performance of the bridge compared to the Play3.

Have you tried moving the existing bridge? It could be placed somewhere where the radio performance is compromised. Try using a longer LAN cable and place the bridge higher and in a more open area.

My own bridge is 1.5m off the ground (in a cupboard) and roughly central in the house. All the other units are a minimum of 10m away and some on different floors. No problem at all with connectivity.

I have my bridge very close to my router in the kitchen, moved the play 3 around the house quite a bit over christmas, no problems, but our house is only a small 3 bed.
Does your wifi signal degrade in a similar way around the house ?
I kind of thought the Sonos signal would be very similar, i dont know any of the technical details though.
Might be worth resseting everything and trying it again...

Wifi behaves the same to be honest, currently using extenders and home plugs, so perhaps I'm being unrealistic to expect sonos to be better. I would move the bridge if I could but it is pretty much stuck in a poor position (in an av cabinet about 1 foot off the ground).

I think I will try another bridge in the setup but looking now I can't seem to find any free bridge offers. I know the official expiry was 31st December but I'm sure I saw packages advertised yesterday. Perhaps websites getting updated after holidays??

Yes a bridge can be used to extend the sonos "mesh" also when connecting multiple devices make sure you start with the units closet to the bridge and work back. That way the speakers will hop from one to the other. Playbar and Sub also work at the higher 5ghz signal connection frequency meaning they boost the signal even further.

Try also moving the bridge away from the router as this can cause interference within the sonos mesh. The same as you wools expect a microwave to effect an analogue tv picture.

incidently - how does wifi perform in your house?

maybe you have a duff unit?

I live in a stone terrace and still get a signal 2 floors up. the bridge is located on top of a subwoofer, behind a TV, up against a wall in the corner of the room. Next to the modem and router with 10 mains cables withing 1 ft of it.

i.e. I am doing everything I possibly can to compromise the signal.

Keep an eye on ebay, bridges seem to go for peanuts fairly regularly.

Any problems give smarthomesounds a call. They have some very good technical advice.

Since Sonos is a mesh network it will behave differently (in theory better) in other rooms if the PLAY:3 is left in situ where it is at the moment.

so, your test of moving the PLAY:3 to see what coverage you get, isn't actually reflecting the coverage you would get to a new device, if the 3 wasn't moved.

I've seen several go for £20, BNIB. Probably because of the free ones being sold off as mentioned.

This is interesting. It sounds like you are operating through more physical obstructions than I am. I would guess my desired location for another player is roughly 15-20m away from the bridge and through a few solid walls. I may try locating the bridge a bit higher up - would attaching it to the rear of the TV (with a gap between) be a bad idea?

I think I may buy another bridge or bridge/player package. I could try a different bridge attached to router and see if there is any improvement.

Anyone seen the free bridge package advertised recently?

15-20m is a long way, even my 2 stories of 10ft high rooms is only 25ft or so
, so you are far worse than me.
