I Drove my mates Tamora with them on in France in torrential rain they were very good the F1 s would out perform them in those conditions but for me they're just as good as the F1 in the rain and far superior in all other conditions except snow! But it all depends on how you drive/talent .I run F1s on mine and I'll be glad to see the back of them and will be going down the R1R or 888's I've not decided yet. That's just my opinion of course

What model of F1 are we talking here? There are big differences between the directional GSD3s which have been discontinued for a while now so any remaining will be on their way to age hardening a bit. Mine were like driving on hockey pucks. The Assymetrics were quite good and the Assymetric 2s a different animal again.

Never the less, I'm also interested in hearing more real-world R1R experience. I think they'd be a bad move for me as I read that the warning stickers that come with them advise not to even roll the car if the temperatures are low due to cracking. If that is indeed true I could use them in summer but would still need something more suitable for the colder seasons.

i did not like the 888 when out in a downpour so looking for something sticky that still works in wet
(currently gsd3 front and asymetrics on rear but getting a bit old)

I run R1Rs as road tyres and very good they are to.

On a wet Bedford TD they outperformed most on the track, superb but not as good as 888s on a dry track.

That's why I have a set of each on the same wheels smile

r1R here, v good in the wet, pretty good in the dry but not as soft as 888

preferable (for me) as an all round tyre

consider federal rsr. vv good both wet and dry. more a road performance than sticky track tyre

I've been looking at R1R's for fitting next April time as they should add grip to my car and are receiving good feedback on here. The Toyo website states the tyres should not be used, or any car fitted with them moved if temperatures reach -9c.

May even change the wheels to a wider size if funds allow biggrin

I've had R1R's on my T350c for 20 months now and they've been great even in the wet. The limit seems to be temperature, once they get below 8-10c the breakaway point is reduced a fair bit and below 5c they get quite slidey.

Hi,

I was on the really wet Bedford track day in my Chimaera which was only a tad slower that Phazed’s OLD Chimaera (the green one) down the straight, but in the beds it was a huge difference, partly as he is a much better driver that I am (I have only ever done 3 track days) but also down to the tyres, I was running the Toyos (I think TR1s) and he was running a full set of R1Rs.

Then I did a few laps as a passenger in Phazed’s Chimera and fully experienced the grip the R1Rs have in the wet: it is really, really good! And so is his driving… Hopefully I’ll get to sit in the new “blue monster” soon!

A few months after I had to change my front tyres and I now have R1Rs.

I do not have much experience of the R1Rs, as shortly after having change the tyres I became a father since and bought a house (that needs a lot of work and I am doing quite a bit myself) so from last may my Chimaera became I bit of a garage Queen… I will be using it more (hopefully this year) and will probably change my rear tyres before going to Le Mans Classic and no doubt I will be buying R1Rs.

Those tyres are reputed to be really good in the dry, well, I have experienced them in the wet and they are really good, so for me it’s R1Rs all the way…

Good lunch and safe trucking!

Meant to post this piccie.

It shows the tread pattern for coping with water.

I've got R1R's on my Griff and can drive at substaintially higher speeds then I could on track day tyres .. ie 40mph ass twitching, but on RiRs happily doing 80-90 in same road conditions..... BUT in the dry give me my Kumho V70a back, too much flex in the R1R's for my licking..... BUT as an compriise they are good tyre for all conditions .. thats my review

I have R1Rs as road tyres and they seem perfectly OK. I have had it aquaplane once on a flooded roundabout but I am not sure that the tyres were anything to do with it.
