Not a hardcore fan but enjoy all types of jazz from classic to bosanova and some of the modern stuff.

. I'm no hardcore fan likewise, my musical tastes are quite broad to say the least (not adverse to listening to say Jazz, Hip-hop and Metal in the same session 
). I listen to a lot of streams and although knowing a lot of names, I wouldn't really know where to start with a collection. Not so keen on Trad, more so late 60s onwards, Amhad Jamal, Pharoah Sanders, Ramsey Lewis etc (all worth a listen). I love latin jazz and bossanova in particular, or anything from fusion etc. to not-so-smoochy smooth jazz even.

I have an album by Oscar Peterson called 'The Trio', recorded live in Chicago in 1961. I love the live feel of this album and the fact that you can occasionally hear him humming the tune too. If you've not got it, it's well worth adding to your collection.

You might like to try some Zappa. Listen to 'Big Swifty' from the album Waka/Jawaka. If you like that, then have a search through his catalogue for other fusion material. I think the live versions of Sinister Footwear are brilliant.
Just as an aside, a lot of the albums were remastered from the original master tapes in 2012, and those are the ones I'd recommend listening to. Some of the Zappa Cd's released in the nineties and the noughts were pretty dire sonically.

Always liked mainstram stuff, though never bought any. However, since signing up to google music I've been listening to a lot more. Was going through a playlist the other night which had all sorts on there - Miles Davis, Oscar Peterson, Ella Fitzgerald, a really good mix - was about 2-3 albums worth.
I also quite like Stanley Jordan - the 2-handed tapping guy.
