A 1960 Commer TS sold for £1.8 million at auction just before Christmas. A fine looking lorry to be sure, but £1.8m! That's a lot of money for a three-cylinder 53-year-old commercial.

More details at www.bonhams.com/auctions/20934/lot/11/

Exactly. It's simply no ordinary lorry. Having said that, I think most observers were surprised by the price it reached. But motor racing collectors have very big wallets.

Was it not one bloke who bought the C-type, D-type and transporter? Expensive afternoon!

The sound those blown two-stroke diesel engines make is awesome. Well worth the money for a wonderful piece of history. (IMHO)

Lynx Motors used to be based round the corner from me in Hastings. Many years ago I remember seeing this parked outside their unit with a couple of D-Types loaded on it. Looked stunning. No idea it was worth anything like that though!

If Gerry Anderson designed a car transporter....

That has to be the coolest car transporter out there.

Beautiful looking vehicle but is just me that thinks the photo makes it look like a matchbox model?

It almost certainly won't be faster than a Veyron.

I know which I'd rather have yes
