Until this morning on my commute to the train station.

Both came out of a junction together which split into three lanes and he floored it. Trust me, I was not racing him, he would have decimated me regardless. I assume he was late for work!

Can't remember seeing a car undertake five other cars so rapidly.

Dangerous? Of course. Humbling....VERY! Bang for buck I dont think much can come close..

Standard impreza these days are not that quick, when they first came out there was not much that could live with them, these day's 208 odd bhp is common, now if it was breathed on in anyway then that's a different story, mate at work has a 500 brake version that looks standard, that is very quick and possibly too much for the road.

Agreed, 2-3k picks you up a nice example these days. Brilliant and so easy to tune.

The trouble with impreza's is you never know what state of tune they're in. That Classic would have been 240bhp standard I think. All WRX classics were Imports.

If it was a WRX it would have been much more than 208bhp, 240-280 IIRC was what the JDM cars produced. If it was a UK car then it was a Turbo 2000 and would have started life with just 208bhp wink

Hmmm. Been hunting for one today. Cant find any in that bracket. Tried ebay and Autotrader

WRX STi has been what I have been searching for. Ideally would want one pushing near 280-300 brake..

Purchase with your eyes wide open. If they aren't tuned correctly (and sometimes even then) they have a habit of destroying big end bearings. The fuel rail design and other design issues makes cylinder 3 prone to detonation with inevitable results.

N plate will be 260 ps (256 bhp) as standard, but as said it could be anything but.

If you dont know your way around these old cars, you're setting yourself up to get well and truly burnt. There is so much crap out there its unbelievable. Virtually none of the adverts will have the whole truth and most have so much bks printed in them that you will have no idea what you're getting. I've seen loads of them for sale with 12-14 owners in 10 years...just horrid.

Research on places like Scoobynet is the best way to go. Sign up, start a thread saying you're after a nice Impreza with links to some you like the look of and you'll get some help...

I had a standard-ish WRX with some STI bits. "Most boring car ever" is overstating it a lot but that said I didn't keep it long. Very fast, great noise, great steering, great engine, massive grip but overall still not very involving. Just a bit too much like a normal car in fast-forward.

Thats not a 1995 or 1996, so I doubt very much it was one of those.

Always be weary of old jap cars.

I know several folk with Imprezas, some of which are standard with a catback, some of which have 400BHP+.

My 200SX is in the middle field, mine has around 290BHP which is around 50% up on standard, I know of a couple which look nigh on identical, one which has a standard 197bhp. and another with 380bhp! yet you couldn't tell them apart.

Makes it all much more fun IMHO biggrin

An N-reg classic Impreza weighs about 1240 kg. Even in standard tune 210 bhp/ton is still pretty competitive by modern standards, even allowing for 4WD transmission losses.

Thank god someone has posted this, I was going to do the same.

Who said a 208HP Impreza is slow, if it's a burst of acceleration off the mark at some traffic lights there are very few cars (that you see on a regular commute) that could keep up.

A standard 1994 UK Turbo 2000 will hit 60 in 6seconds, that IS FAST in 1994 and it IS still fast.
