I'm aware this is quite possibly the boringest thread on PH, but I'm bored at work.

What are the rules in your house for sitting in the front of the car as a child?

For me it was always parents in the front, if there was only parent, the eldest child gets the spare front seat.

I always find it weird when a parent is sat in the back of the car, no idea why!

So, what are the rules for you?

(Sorry again for the st thread, work is dead!).

I would always be made to sit in the back while my (travel-sick prone!) younger brother got the front seat...made my blood boil! laugh

I was always allowed in the front if there was a seat free, except in my aunts car - where she wouldn't let children under 12 in the front for safety reasons...

As soon as your big enough to not need a booster seat, shotgun rules apply I agree.

I've been teaching my god son about it and he's getting the hang of it regularly nabbing the front seat :-).

As kids we had places in the car to stop fighting.... If only driver and kid = passenger seat.

Now, our daughter is in the back, but does during the week migrate to the passenger seat.

As for her kicking me or the missus into the back - no chance!

ETA - When she was a baby, step-lad occasionally moved to the front as it was easier for her to do feeding etc in the back. - This directly lead some sneaky swine to open the drivers door, while I was in the services, apologise to my other half, and steal my PDA satnav.

The only time I travelled int he back was when I was in a carrycot. As soon as I could sit up I was in the front, on cushions with my toy steering wheel suckered on to the dash of Dad's Austin A40. That was around 1953. I've never sat in the back of any family car since.

My brother sits in the front (driving) on his own, his OH and 8 year old daughter both sit in the back. I think that's not right!

Me and my brother always took turns to sit in the front as kids.

Parents in the front, kids in the back; any other configuration is wrong. Does anyone (apart from me) still follow the rule that if you have a male adult passenger then he gets shotgun with the wife relegated to the back?

Yup. Same bloke had at the other end of the car park opened up someone boot as they were about to reverse out of their space, and nicked a bag.

They did catch somebody, but thanks to South Yorkshire Police being incompetent (this was at Hopwood Park on the M42), we lost track of what was happening.

Youngest daughter gets terribly travel sick. My wife's driving has made her chunder in less than four miles hehe

She always sits in the front and my wife goes in the back with the eldest. I should really have a car with more than two doors...
