Morning all.

I have the itch to get a jag again. I want a XKR-S but i can't seem to find any on the jag website.

A question for the Jag experts, is the XKR-S a significant upgrade over the normal XKR?

The other options are (Wifey thoughts) used M6, CLS AMG. to be totally honest the extra space isn't needed, and I don't like the look of the other two!

Check out Charles of Windsor,

i had an XKR from them a month or so ago and they had a rather nice looking XKR-S in French Blue. Sure it was about 6 months old with considerable saving,

found it and it looks like they still have it,very nice!

There are a number of XKR-S models on the Jaguar site?

The MPG is always around 17 for my XKR - the official figures are nonsense to be honest. You don't really buy one of these for fuel economy though do you?!

An approved XKR-S will cost 56k upwards. For this amount I suspect you could have a brand new XKR built to your spec.

There is nothing else to rival a XKR at that money.

You cant order a car based on the current £20k+ discount levels, only cars in stock. You are right on pricing though, could do a standard XKR for early to mid £50k's and a speed / black packed, performance seats, performance exhaust spec for circa £60k. I have 4 to choose from.....

The XKR is a fantastic car, very quick, supremely comfortable, sounds gorgeous and really a perfect GT car that is great fun when you want it to be. The XKR-S is very different in character and it really depends what you are after. It is properly loud (much more so than XKR) and banks and pops on overrun, noticeably harder riding and attracts a lot of attention, almost all positive in my experience but not necessarily what everyone wants (incl. my wife). I actually think it is verging on overpowered for the grip from the rear but it is hugely enjoyable. The sound alone is like no other car and is what ultimately sold me. I was comparing to Aston V8V and DB9 at the time and much preferred it overall. I just sold mine and am planning to buy another. Only thing I would say is the R-S is quite 'twitchy' for such a large car (not the case with the R) and very low. Both BMW M/Merc AMG are just 'cars' to me in comparison to either the R or the R-S.

Re your fuel economy post, I've seen as low as 7mpg using the paddles. Otherwise 16ish is normal.

Isn't being on the limit of the grip when things are fun?

I have the xkrs. It's a great car. Previous cars included miultiple 911, M5, cls, vantage sl55f1 etc.

Here's the why. Beauty is in the eye if the beholder but in my view it stunning. It is very masculine and certainly gets a lot more attention than I thought a nag would get. My colour is stratus grey which in my view is well suited to th car.

For me it is very practical. I have two 11 year olds and for short journeys we can have a boys day out!

Aside from the performance it is a really nice play to be. The seats, all the toys etc are perfect.

My last two cars were the new M5 and a sl55 performance pack. I like grunt and th xkrs does not disappoint. There is no lag, no turbo, no waiting on mega revs etc. it's almost electric in its delivery.

Since getting it I have sadly only experienced wet or sloppy roads and it certainly cannot get its power down. I guess there are few 550 hp red cars that can!

I am really looking forward to some better weather and seeing what it's like in the dry.

I have just remove fuse no 19. This is linked to the active exhaust. By selecting dynamic with he engine running and then removing the fuse the butterflies stay open and you have a 24/7 sports exhaust. It's not too noisy and this free mod avoids the need for track hard suspension on the roads.

So in summary I would recommend one. I have a 2012 coupe with 3000 miles. It was £65k and £33k off list. Compared to an Aston it's great value. Depreciation us steep but hopefully with low mileage it should not fall too much in the short term.

I've got a 911 C4S which I'm really enjoying. I saw an XK-R (in the French blue) on the motorway over the weekend and thought....wow! Yesterday I went to take a look at one in Guildford and they are really nice. Longer than the Porsche but I'm guessing narrower at the hips. I do like the idea of having a V8 supercharged car. The interior was nicer than my (997.1) 911. I can imagine it being a bit more fun to drive too...the C4S is bomb proof.

However,

The F type coupe arrives in March. I suspect there will be a tide of XK-R owners turning up looking to px theirs for the new F-Type, which looks (and according to the review on PH) drives better than the convertible. I sat in the F type convertible and it didn't do it for me, while the coupe looks very nice.

Still a V8 XK-R in French blue on black wheels, cream interior, nice exhaust.....yes if someone wants to sell me one.....

Gavin,

You cannot get a "normal" XKR in French Racing Blue, only the XKR-S. You also cannot get the XKR-S with a cream interior.....

Therefore, which is more important to you?

I have a Black with Ivory XKR coupe in stock with the XKR-S seats, XKR-S exhaust, Speed Pack and reverse camera which looks lovely......

If you click of Ashley's name over on the left hand side it will take you his profile. Then on the right hand side just above the picture there is an "email" link.

I am getting some grief about a new toy. Misses is playing a game of new house or extension. so so blowing 60K on a car is looking less likely. I have a option to wait till the summer and see how much pain my lovely wife puts me through with the house/extension plan, or i spend 20K ish now and leave some cash around to sweeten the idea.

I really want the XKR-S, and i'm still looking around. I almost at lunch had a look and book a test drive. i refrained lol.

so i'm going to open up to the Jag chaps to give me options. I was going to post in the BMW/Merc/VXR forums, i feared I will get lots of how great the other cars are etc I find the jag chaps much more open minded.
so I could spend £20K ish (maybe more) with some other options.
options are (please add more if you think of anything)
early XFR?
early XKR (new shape 4.2, -thought i feel like i am buying something that looks old compared to the new 5.0L)
08 E60 M5
08 E/CLS 63 AMG
outside option..09 VXR8 (with a few mods)

The important thing to note is I will drive this car. Alot. I am talking 20K ayear if not more. as long as i get 20+mpg on a runs I am not fussed about mpg, but reliability is important and long distance cruising has to be good.

all comments and ideas welcome. fire away!
