Supersport 2012 can't get it started. Stuck at work. Turn ignition to last stage, get normal needle flick and dash lights but the fast flickering imoboliser light stage never starts as if the fob isn't detected.

Light continues its slow blink as if the keys weren't there. Ideas?

Going to try disconnecting battery for 10 minutes. That is Caterhams only suggestion.

The immobiliser antennae is looped round the ignition barrel. Maybe try touching the fob directly onto this after turning the key to position 1 (the first click)?

Alternatively, maybe disconnect the battery, wait ten seconds, then reconnect it again - the good old 'turn it off and back on again' routine. Yes, I do work in IT. smile

Good luck.

Thanks, but still no luck. I work in the IT biz too so gave it a hard-reset with battery disconnected for 10 minutes but nada. Tried first ignition stage while removing fob from keyring and putting it every place I could think off.

So for anyone in the know, when the imobiliser light flashes really quickly, is that the car searching for the fob or is that the car indicating it's found the fob? Caterham don't believe it can be the fob itself, however I don't have the spares with me as I'm 50 miles away from home. frown

Anyone with their handbook around, could you see if there is a specific fuse I could check/swap that might be the culprit?

Am looking at the pdf handbook (could email you a copy if you wish...?) and it states the following for fuses:
P = Ignition Supply Engine 15A
Q = Ignition Supply Engine 15A
R = Ignition Supply Engine 15A
S = Ignition Supply Engine 15A

As for the rapidly flashing LED on the immobiliser, according to the manual that means the system is being primed for a new key fob. See below

Programming new transponder tags
If you require a new transponder tag for an additional user, or as a replacement through loss or damage, please contact Caterham Aftersales Department.
Once you have received your new transponder tag, you will need to programme it. To do this you must have an existing transponder tag that already operates the system.
1) Disarm the system using an existing transponder tag attached to the ignition key.
2) Switch the ignition on and off twice and then turn the ignition back on, all within 7 seconds (the LED will flash rapidly).
3) The system will then recognise the transponder tag on the key ring and re-programme it.
4) The LED will flash once to indicate it recognises the transponder tag.
5) Remove the ignition key with the transponder tag attached.
6) Pass a new transponder tag close to the ignition barrel.
7) The LED will flash twice to indicate that the new transponder tag is in the memory.
8) Pass any additional transponder tag close to the ignition barrel.
9) For each transponder tag programmed into the system the LED will flash a number of times to indicate how many transponder tags are programmed into the system.
10) When you have finished, switch the ignition off and the Sterling Excel will exit the programming mode.

I had mine fail in the same way after 18 months. Had to fit a new immobiliser, not the same type as they aren't very reliable frown

Thanks for that. Mine normally flashes rapidly upon disarming, not just reprogramming..hmmm. Still awaiting a call from the Caterham techy.

Flashing quickly means it's searching for the sensor - once I tough the fob against the barrel (or near), you should hear a click and the light should settle to a slow flash (or constant, I forget).

Mine's an '09 and I'm on my second immobiliser after the first one had apparently been removed from the circuit entirely when a previous owner fitted a kill switch to the dashboard. Great on a track maybe, not ideal if you're actually using the car around towns!

Wish they didn't have them frankly; my first Seven's one marooned me on a high street roundabout (I was in my suit too)and the current one is a bugger to realise it needs to deactivate . Cue lots of jiggling; lots cussing , more jiggling etc

In case you need to replace it, the auto electrician I used told me the cheaper model where there is a contact on the dash which you touch with the key fob is a much more reliable design. I swapped to this style and it is a bit inconvenient to have to touch it before inserting the key, but better than waiting for the next aerial one to fail rolleyes

Hope you get it fixed soon smile

So I've had to leave it in my work car park overnight and Caterham will be collecting tomorrow under warranty. Luckily a colleague drove me the 50 miles home and out of his way, otherwise I'd've been stuck there! I'll update you with the findings tomorrow (if any).

Given the age of the design it really is shocking how little engineering they seem to have done over the years. If they'd have evolved the cars through the ages whilst retaining their mantra they'd sell a lot more of them and they wouldn't shave so many niggles.

There isn't a battery in the fob.

Just to warn you, I'm replacing my front wheel bearings at the moment after 12,000 miles after the man who assembled them damaged the seals and didn't put enough grease in. frown

Sorry to hear about that. Caterham seem to be in their own little customer service bubble, they don't return calls or emails and offer very little in the way of proper 'service'. It's lucky their product sells itself really otherwise they'd be out of business. Despite being told that I'd have a call last night to confirm pickup times etc, I'm still sitting here none-the-wiser as to when the car will be picked up. Pretty rubbish.
