Had a Merc, BMW and Audi - How about a Jag ?
Discussion
So as the title says I have had a Merc C270 a BMW 525d M-Sport and am currently driving a A6 Avant 3.0 TDI Black Edition.
The Merc was a new company car and spec was a little over the top, just over 40K on a C-Class, had it 3 years and to be honest was not overly impressed.
Next into the BMW, car was great not a single issues in almost 5 years, I bought it when it was 18 months old and it really didn’t miss a beat. However the engine was not particularly exciting.
Currently I’m in a 3 yr old Audi and have been for the last 15 months. It’s a lovely car, does everything it is supposed to and does it well – ticks all boxes and looks nice as well.
So when the time comes to change I’m thinking XJ. I don’t need the estate boot that the Audi offers so can look at a saloon and the XJ looks fantastic.
I am aware that asking this question in the Jag forum will get slightly biased answers so in effect what I’m really asking is what to look out for ?
Are there any issues I should be aware of and therefore consider ?
I’m thinking XJ 3.0 SWB Portfolio 30k ish maybe a little more for the right car.
Blue with Tan looks lovely – maybe too much ?

Seems like a natural progression you have been making over the last few years / vehicles. The Merc was a new company car and spec was a little over the top, just over 40K on a C-Class, had it 3 years and to be honest was not overly impressed.

Whilst I like the London Tan, after a quick search of XJ Portfolios nationally (SWB & LWB) there are only 3 in the UK with London Tan under £40k (75ish cars). Also after racking my brain for a bit I can only think of perhaps 2 or 3 XJ's I have sold new with London Tan over the last 4 years or so. Says something about its popularity.... Probably more down to people compromising on what they really want and playing safe with an eye on resale value unfortunately.
Nothing to look out for spec wise as a Portfolio comes with everything you need at the age / price point you are looking at (later cars lost the dual view front screen and massage front seats).
Nice option to have I suppose would be the TV tuner to link in to the dual view screen.
Rear entertainment wasn't an option on early XJ's until the launch of the Supersport which had it as standard. A few therefore had after market kits fitted.
Oterwise, choose whether its LWB or SWB and then colours you would be happy with and that wont leave an awful lot to mull over at this price point.
As for issues etc, few proper issues, more likely to need small recall work really, which if its an approved car should be all up to date anyway. Likewise, tyres, discs, pads etc will all have pleanty of life in them as an Approved car and would come with 12 months Jaguar warranty and European roadside assistance.
And no, I dont have anything to offer you at the moment unfortunately....! ;-)
