Private plate

Basically I have my private registration on my current car. Got someone interested. Can I put the plate on retention at the same time as I am selling the vehicle?

You are better to put it on retention before you sell it.
It will save a lot of hassle.

What do I need to take to the DVLA local office? Logbook, tax disc and mot certificate. Do I need the retention certificate?

No more DVLA offices - they all closed by December last year.
V317, cheque for £105, sent to DVLA in Swansea. V5C is normally back in around 2 weeks, V778 back in around 3 weeks.
