A ray of light at last.
After hearing so many depressing weather reports apparently its going to be a nice sunny day for most of us tomorrow!
Now I've just gone and sorned my car but I just thought I'd mention it, hopefully it'll give you guys time to plan a drive.
I almost gave up and taxed it this morning.
Harder than the booze to kick,
If anyone's doing something with their car this wk end please tell me so I can get a Tupperware dish and pretend!

One thing regards laying up,
I'd left the car for a good ten days and when I started her up, for the first time ever, dry cam for a second and metallic sound, ouch you bugger, so I've saved a few quid and knocked the top of a lobe off instead. Over exaggeration but the point really is that noise was apparant because it had t been started.

Nuts to sorning the car again.
I have a plan, collect up all the bits I want to change/ upgrade, drive into garage, do the work drive out again and carry on.

I like the idea of taking ages over doing the work as on such a car its fun not work but I can't live without the car for long enough. Sorned???? Now if I start it I can't actually give it a run. Bad bad bad.

The thread? Here's hoping for lovely sunny day to lift the spirits.

The general wisdom seems to be Alun, is while it is laid up, don't start it up, unless you are going to drive it.

Already planned my route for 'essential' visits today smile
Who knows what tomorrow will bring?

Theyve chucked tons of salt on the roads round here last night. Guessing its because theyve got a mountain of it as we havent had the worst "cold" winter in 100 years.

Not sure I fancy taking the car out on the roads as they stand and covering it in a brine/salt dust...

We need it to hammer down then be mild.

This is all true but as long as its dry and you jet wash the chassis!
Clean the engine bay
Wash the wheels, take calipers off, drop the dif, you'll get it clean again.

Its hard to Resist a fresh crisp winters morning, all that power.

Yes that makes sence Bill,
I'm thinking of pulling the fuses before I start the car again, turn her over for twenty seconds or so.
I'm not having that noise again.
Question will that work, will the battery turn engine over fast enough to get some splash or am I wasting my time.
Sounded like a pinto Cortina for a minute!

I have always understood that it's better to leave it to rest until you intend to use it.
It's not a dog (or one's missus) that needs a little tickle now and then to let it (her) know you still care.
Trust me, after a layup of more than a week it will do plenty to remind you why you should have been driving it.
Mine always did, and still does.

I had to do this with my old Chimaera and have one of the Carl Baker instals on this car. Its like the nanny state, self arming itself, which I cant adjust to! If it did not have the boot switch on the remote, it would be disabled/removed!

Some work on the clutch?
A bigger one to take the extra power I'm asuming.

I'll be honest its like trying to walk away from Racheul Welch not driving the crazy thing.

You can get a kit that is easy to fit that has a small reed relay in the rear light cluster and you can open the boot without the ignition on.
It costs about £25

Just popped out in mine to pick up a dirty take away before they closed. I'm sure the neighbourhood enjoyed the old girl clearing her throat when I cranked her up! biggrin

Hooligan. It reminds me of when I first got my Chim, I'd go out late at night full of fear but full on excitement as I knew I'd end up on a curtain very dark quiet motorway doing stupid speeds all anarchy and noise in the dead of night on your own is a weird place to be. I'd get home and you'd think I'd been to a gig. Ears ringing and adrenaline still burning through the vains.
Tvr,,,,,,, nuff said.

My mates been looking at building me a garage and he suggested we do a pit! Its not such a bad idea, these car lifts etc are cool but a few axle stands and a pit you can get to all areas easy enough! Cheap way to do it.
Well when you move the neighbours will miss the noise so let them enjoy it while they can.
If you respect your neighbours,I did feel really bad coming home at 1.30 am and somehow trying to be silent,in a de cat Chimp!
Funny I've hardly driven the Tvr in months and now the neighbours ask me why!!!! They miss it too. Lol

Alun450, instead of a pit why not get some timber and build a raised platform so you can drive straight up it? That's what I'm planning to do only thing is you will have to use more timber to get the car in and out but must be cheaper easier and quicker than a pit?

Just an idea

The big advantage of a pit is you can still access the engine bay without moving anything up or down.
It was my mates idea he likes digging holes!
I also have height issues as the garage will be a lean to rather than a seperate building!
Good thing is I can make it very wide so can add big shelves etc.
I'm going to be moving again in a couple of years but can't cope without a garage. It'll always add value so if I have to live here awhile then a garage makes sence.
I have some good friends who own garages with lifts etc so I don't actually need a garage but a man can't exists without one in my book.
I have a rare Suzuki Pee wee bike that may kids rode, I stripped it it the kitchen!
Sunday dinner tasted a bit Castrol R ???
Yeah I need a garage for my sanity!
