Got to admit I am a complete noob in these things.

My assumption would be that pads would wear at a far faster rate than disks, however I took my Yaris in for it's 60 000 mile service and they say both need doing. I'm rather surprised the pads lasted that long to be honest but I would have thought the discs would have lasted longer.

Given new pads and discs do you think they will ask me to bed them in ? Or is it not needed nowadays.

I generally replace the discs on our own cars every second set of pads unless the disc thickness is still well within allowed tolerances.
They will need time to bed in - couple of hundred miles should be plenty & avoid heavy braking if possible - & its not unusual to notice the pedal seems a bit vaguer than usual.

Not an unusual life for discs. Modern pads do last a long time, at the expense of the discs.

It could be that the discs won't last another 60000 miles so they would wear down to the limit before the pads, which is unlikely to be noticed.
