One question on BMW satnav, does it have rerouting to get round traffic jams yet? Does anyone here actually own and use such a system?

Looking to spec satnav in a 535D sport touring

It's a great tool to have.
I would never have "bought" SatNav but it came as standard with the Car. Now I would not be without it ... it proved to be especially useful in Europe.

Is there one level of satnav in BMWs. In other words do all the satnavs cover europe?

The older SatNav systems are CD-based and you get a CD per country for large countires or per gorup of countries, e.g. Benelux or Austria/Switzerland/Southern Germany. For the last 18 months to two years, they have all been DVD-based and cover the whole of Europe.

The new 5, 6 and 7 Series have a more sophisticated system than the 3 Series and the previous 5 and 7.

The SatNav in my car covers the whole of Europe and operates from a DVD located in the Centre Console.

Snap. Bought one a fortnight ago.

Specced mine with the professional sat nav system and it is good. Will route you round jams if you set it to do so, also if you like it can display a full list of problem areas starting with those nearest to you.

Takes a little getting used to the system (like any sat nav really) but works well. Very useful split screen which makes it possible to display a lot of information simultaneously

They only recently enabled TMC, if you have a Europe DVD or a car post about Nov 03 it should be enabled .. if not you need to buy or obtain a new satnav disk (TMC will appear in red on the display if it's not enabled on your disk)

Tim, how are you finding the car? For me it is a toss up between the 535 and a Cayenne S but I've yet to drive the bmw (though that will be rectified by Friday).

What spec?

Andrew lets hope they have a decently run - in example to let you really have a good go at extracting the performance potential then

Mine is a 535d sport touring, carbon black, dakota black leather, dark maple, full sunroof (huge), Logic 7 Hi Fi, visibility package, pimp tints, professional sat nav, automatic rear door and a few other fripperies.

Very pleased so far. Effortless pace - torque figure similar to DB9 but at nearly tick over by comparison, big, roomy interior well put together, currently averaging around 25mpg with very spirited driving.

Quick car - by any standards.

Tim - looks great, and your spec is the same as I'd go for (the panoramic sunroof sounds good)!

It does but as always be mindful of what it tells you - it may dump you onto a local road that it has no data for that's clogged with school run traffic. I've turned off the auto re-route function so that it asks first.
