Number plate dilemma
Discussion
The dealer has fitted this very fetching plate to my new V12s. It's great that it does not clash with the grill and is of course much smaller than a normal plate. I have seen a few vantage's with this type of plate previously that I understand are known as 'show plates'. I would love to leave this on my car but does anyone have experience (with the police?!!) regarding these plates. I don't want to get fined / points for something do innocent (on the assumption I'm not doing 205mph at the time)

Have a read of this thread:

Plenty of owners drive around with smaller than usual front plates. Very few ever have a problem and if they do, the worst outcome is a slap on the wrists and a £60 fine.

Difficult to tell looking at the picture but there isn't a minimum size for the plate but there are requirements for the letters to be standard font, to be 79mm tall and to have a from memory 10mm white border around them. That plate looks as if it is probably OK and would be surprised if an AM dealer would fit an illegal plate.
ETA Note the dealer has put their details on the plate which is a current requirement so again very unlikely to be illegal and would give you good comeback if it was found to be so.

Pretty sure the law says 3/4 size number plates are legal as long as the characters and spacing used are standard and the registration is no more than 5 (or possibly 6) characters (which would be an issue for your reg being 7 characters)

I had reduced sized plates similar to your front. My understanding is that as long as the size of the letters conform to the UK Standard (font type, font size, spacing and colour) they are perfectly fine regardless of the size of the plate itself.

Yes, there's nothing in the regulations that specifies the size of the number plate, only the font, size, spacing and distance from the letters to the edge.HTH

I'm pretty sure the law says your plates must meet the legal specifications, as described on the DVLA website....Edited by smartmove on Saturday 11th January 09:45

Pretty sure most of the traffic cars carry a little thing they put on top of the plate and the size of letters etc has to conform to it.No iffs no buts..

Had a very small plate on the front of the Griff for 5 years, couple of "chats" with the boys in blue in that time and nothing was said about the plate.
Think most of them will only do anything if you have pissed them off or have a stupid font/ spacing, biggest argument seems to be that number plate recognition needs to be able to read it easily.
