By which I mean park up on the opposite side of the road so that when you leave you have to pull out nose first into oncoming traffic and cross over to the right side of the road. No problem if it's nice quiet road I suppose but it always annoys me when it's a busy shopping street and you see someone gingerly trying to edge their way out. Or is it just me?

Not if it can be avoided but when things are relatively quiet I've done it a couple of times. 'Tis a pain in the ass though.

That's what parking lights are for.

Correct -

3. Parking at night (248 to 252)

248

You MUST NOT park on a road at night facing against the direction of the traffic flow unless in a recognised parking space. Laws CUR reg 101 & RVLR reg 24

Not really correct -

249

All vehicles MUST display parking lights when parked on a road or a lay-by on a road with a speed limit greater than 30 mph (48 km/h).
Law RVLR reg 24

From the Highway Code

If I have to, the only thing i check is the visibility when exiting the space.

I would never do it on a corner where you only have a few feet visibility in front of you, but a straight road with good visibility in the day should no be a problem.

Until someone with a large van parks immediately in front of you with a large van, then you are unable to see to pull out safely, unless you have a left hand drive vehicle in which case parking facing the wrong way can make it easier.

I would actually love to see how far this would get if it was started to be enforced regularly. There would be more revenue brought in than the 'safety' cameras.

It's one of those things that's just slipped.

A bit like practising archery on a Sunday morning.

Seems like a common sense approach to parking enforcement - and archery practice <twang>

They are probably oblivious to what they are doing. Face full of high beam is the answer.

It's why cars are made with red reflectors on the back, and not on the front.

Sadly some people just drive around with no regard for others and that extends as far as when they aren't even in the car.
