Help! Kids and wife waiting in car!

I have just started the car and the following lights came on: Battery/generator warning

The car started okay, and it is running fine. The output on my OBD says 11.0 V. This is with the engine running.

I am guessing that this means that the alternator is not charging the battery fully. I am about to drive three hours and I wondered if it was safe to drive?

Many thanks

It wont make it three minutes......

If the alternator isn't charging then the battery will deplete very quickly and you will be stranded. Check the drivebelt - is PAS affected? Could be a belt thrown which will affect cooling too; do not drive it until it's checked out.

If she is driving it and didn't instantly note heavy steering then I'd say the belt is okay. Have you got Porsche Assistance / equivalent?

So I went and collected her from the petrol station. She was actually very relaxed.

I jumped started it with jump leads. It lasted about 2 miles before it died. Jumped it again and it made about 1/2 a mile before dying again. We left if in someone's driveway and I will phone Porsche Assist in the morning. I don't suppose that my Porsche warranty will cover an alternator?

If its Porsche Warranty it will cover the Alternator, any associated part damaged (if any) and a courtesy car from now and secure recovery/storage......

One call should sort it.

same thing happened to my mates 997

it was his alternator and it was covered under warranty. he had psm and abs failure errors and then died.

what year is your 997 mate? the dealer said he had quite a few come in recently with failed alternators must be the weather.

I just had the same. runs fine no lights apart from air bag. The lights removed themselves after driving 10m.
Im wondering if the alternator is packing up. I do sometimes have hot start issues so I'm wondering if it could just be the harness?
