My sister is after a smart TV for around the £400 mark, in the 32"-40" range. I'm out of touch with what's currently decent. She likes the look of Samsung and Sony sets. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Any TV you want then a smart Blu-Ray player. Cheaper to upgrade than the TV.

Richer Sounds has plenty, for example

Plus the decent service, some with 5 year guarantee as well smile

Not my experience. And not the experience of many many others either.

Google is your friend.

Any idea what "smart" functions are required? I only use iPlayer and Skype on mine.

I didn't like the security aspects of some apps (e.g. Facebook) so don't use them.

an android tv dongle will do the job and has more functionality than the rather limited functions of smart tv's.

loads to choose from too.

I recently got a FINLUX smart TV.

Seems to work OK, but I did get the 47" LED 3D version.

But for you sister this might be OK?

Mine says it is made in Turkey, and has some Turkish apps loaded as well as iPlayer and Youtube!

Cheers for the replies.

The Samsungs look like a good bet. Unfortunately despite me explicitly saying 'Don't go in to Currys and buy the first thing you see'. My mum and sister walked in to Currys and bought the first thing they saw. Worst still, it wasn't a £400 TV for my sister, it was an £1100 TV for my mum. Despite me telling her to shop around, she did nothing of the sort. Despite me telling her she was mugged when she paid £40 for an HDMI cable the last time she was in Currys, she spent £50 on another HDMI cable - 'oh but it says it does surround sound and 3D on the packaging'. I didn't even get as far as finding out whether my sister also made a purchase. FFS...

I love the way people ask you for advice and then totally ignore what you recommend. Happens to me a lot too.

Oh, and smart TVs are a total waste of time. Buy something with a decent picture and a cheap 'smart' box to attach that can be easily upgraded.
