Going Backwards

After spending a good few years with a DSLR (first a Nikon D40 then a Canon 400D) and not really making much progress in learning to take 'good' photos, I am taking a very big step backwards

For Christmas, my wife got me a Practica MTL 35mm SLR with a couple of lenses and a load of other gubbins, along with the required kit to start developing my own B&W film.

The camera's filtering system needs a battery, which my dad is currently making for me, and once done I will give it a go.

For some reason, I am really excited about using an old 35mm SLR again. I taught myself the basics of photography when I was at uni using a Practica 35mm SLR, before upgrading to a DSLR, and never quite clicked with digital.

I still have my Practica LTL3 and Paterson darkroom-in-a-box in the back of the wardrobe. Keep meaning to give home developing another go after 30 years, but digital is just so easy I have become too lazy. Good luck!

Metering system perhaps.

Is the battery type no longer available and how does your father make batteries?

Sorry, metering is what I meant

The battery is a little 4.5V thing the same diameter as an AA but half as long - they are available as far as I know, but Dad said he could simply put three 1.5V button cells together (which is in effect all the battery is anyway) for me, and make a little wrap so they fit properly.

Fair enough!

I was thinking it might be a CR2 but they are 3V.
