Should he have done it? No. Did it cause chaos, endanger the pedestrian or anyone else? It doesn't appear so.

Was it illegal? Yes.
So I reckon the driver should be pulled out the cab, skinned alive and stoned to death.

(probably still not good enough for some on here)

Pretty well executed turn though smile

Looks like he was making an illegal right turn to me. It also looked like it was done quickly and dangerously. I suspect he'll certainly lose his job over it.

Not sure it's newsworthy but then I guess the DM isn't really a news site.

The story seems totally un-newsworthy.

Having looked at the road junction in question on google maps, it seems that the lorry did turn left at the junction as directed, but immediately did a u-turn to go back towards the way he came. I have seen plenty on black cabs doing similar moves elsewhere in London. Perhaps this move would have been inadvisable in heavy traffic, but on this occasion it seems to have been executed smoothly and without impeding traffic flow. Road chaos indeed!

As for the pedestrian, they was no where close to being run over, as seen on the video.

Finally, it is hillarious how the report claims that witnessess where shocked and disturbed. Which reporter was at the scene at that moment in time to record the opinions and views of the so called "witessess"?

This is exactly what he has done.

The reason why it's a no right turn is because the lights on whitechapel high street go green for right turn traffic as the same time the left turn lights go green but he hasn't turned right through the gap in the reservation so how is it illegal?

I know that junction well, and its a nightmare. Nice bit of driving if you ask me. Tosser videoing it should be beaten with his own arm, bloke could get the sack due to that busy bd.

Bloke filming it was sat in a box junction when the exit wasn't clear.

If it's that fking dangerous call the police. Else STFU. Sending it in to the DM shows a significant personality flaw that needs professional attention.

My take is he was lost, realised he needed to turn right, it wasn't a no entry, just do not turn right.

May have been following his sat nav which indicated a right turn, who knows.

Well executed, minimal impact, the guy walking the road wasn't in any danger in my opinion, as already the plank who stopped in the box to film him.

It was disgusting, outrageous driving.

People just couldn't believe what was going on, it's such a dangerous part of London, especially to be driving so recklessly.
Anyone who has driven anything around London will know that it is full of "Oh fk!" moments when you suddenly realize you are not allowed to do the manoeuvre you need to do and it is not obvious what the alternative is. Sometimes the best you can do, right there and then, is just get it over with and hope that people are understanding.

Not small minded busybodies with cameras. rolleyes

Anyone with a decent knowledge of London know what his alternatives were? Height/weight restriction ahead for example...

Oh joy, the proliferation of in car/helmet cams is going to make utter non-stories like this ever more popular.

It's just before going into the Aldgate one way system from coming off of commercial street.

All he would have had to do is go around the one way system and he would have been ok no height/weight restrictions etc.

The lines he crossed to do the U-Turn weren't solid either.

The sensible outcome from the proliferation of all these righteous idiots withs dashboard cams would be for all truck companies to remove branding form their trucks!

Bet those with dashcams don't put their own foul-ups on You Tube etc.

I can see no signage preventing this brilliantly-executed manoeuvre. Wish I had this guy's skill!!
