Hello,

I’m seeking some advice please.

I live in Chester, but have taken a job in Aberdeen. This would not be permanent, just a few years – 4 or 5 max.

I have an old Healey that I want to keep.

My options, as far as I can see are :

A/ Transport it to Aberdeen : Anyone know of a car transporter in the North West?

B/ Store it for my time in Aberdeen : Anyone know of a car storage company in the North West??

Car storage ? How expensive ???

I suppose ultimately, I could drive it to Aberdeen, as it’s in very good condition.

400 miles in a soft top ???

Any advice or thoughts, please ???

Thanks,

Nick

Drive it. 400 miles is nothing.

If you've got somewhere to keep it in Aberdeen I'd drive it up there.

I know a fella who has a good storage facility in Northwich. He is an honest sort, and I think charges at most about £20 a week.

There are some great & quiet driving roads in Aberdeenshire/Grampian and the rest of northern Scotland - you'll love it in your Healey!

However, I'd store the Healey in Aberdeen over the winter because they throw biblical quantities of salt on the roads any time from late October through to May. The salt will kill your Healey. I know this because I live not far away and several of my cars have suffered this fate. (I have resolved never to let my beautiful E39 M5 out of my garage until the gritters are laid up for the warmer months).

If it were me I'd buy a cheap hack for the winter and enjoy the Healey during the summer and early autumn.

OP,

There is no way I'd use "normal" car storage for a classic that doesn't move. Issues like rust, things getting stuck, rubbers going, etc etc. I know a bloke who stored a few classics in a big car store place, under covers (birds sometimes get in there and a 4 year poo will muller your paint) - but once after a storm one of the cars was pretty wet. I can only imagine what that would have done to an otherwise shiny Healey after a few years..

Anyways, the area around Aberdeen is lush. You'd miss out so much by not being able to have a cruise round the highlands with the roof off...

As an alternative, I can store it for you in Wilmslow for a 1k a year mileage allowance =)
