Having done LM Classic and 24 du Mans twice I'm thinking about Spa 6 hours race over May bank holiday weekend for 2014. Drive down to Spa sounds like an opportunity to not spare the DB9 horses plus a chance to see all the Le Mans cars go through Eau Rouge should be done I guess. Any of you AMers going/done it before?

Tbh, Monsieur Gdc, I don't believe anyone on this forum has ever been to Spa.

If they have, they've most certainly kept it quiet. smile

What are the entry qualifications for such an endurance race? I always thought you needed a few billion in the bank to get a team together etc

Is the Classic open to all us bozzo's that fancy our chances at being a racing driver? smile

Well the WEC (World Endurance Championship - basically the world sportscar championship with a new name) is with proper racing drivers, the classic is done by privateers - no idea of the cost, I guess it depends more on the car and how committed you are to the whole thing - Oh and getting hold of a classic racer isn't a cheap task!

So anyone with a classic car, and enough commitment to get their car there, get it ready and race the damned thing .....

Is there any classification for a classic car ..... it is 25 years older, or pretty much any car that can be called a classic ....?

It appears that 1979 is the youngest car that can enter..... so 35 years old.....

Wiki says .......

There are 6 classes....

1923-1939 (pre-WWII)
1949-1956
1957-1961
1962-1965
1966-1971
1972-1979

I don't have anything old enough...... were cars ever reliable back in 1979?

There may be a "past it's prime" class which irrespective of age anyone/anything can enter......... with that you may stand a chance of inclusion

Oh come on boys, you’re kidding yes….?

Without any challenges in life what would we do? Without going places and doing things….. I can drive to my local seaside resort for coffee, but where is the challenge? Anyone can do that……

I can tootle around my city …. Whoopdy doooo ….! I can even take a run a bit further afield ….. so what?

My kids are still in school, what I would give for the look on their little faces for them to say to their friends…. “my dad is racing at Le Mans….”.

They say, and I very much agree, that when you’re sat in front of the fire waiting to pass on to the afterlife, you will not regret the things you did, but you will regret the things you didn’t do ….

Imagine sat in front of the fire and saying, “I could have entered Le Mans, I could have raced the circuit”, I don’t want to think about the things I could have done ……

But if I were to have the chance to do something like that …… the kids would have told their kids, and the grand children would come around to listen to, “Grandpa Maverick”, explain the day he raced at Le Mans …..and when he hit 200 at the Mulsanne straight……

OMG what I would give for that story ……..

If there is the most remote chance that I could enter such a race, I have a feeling I would grab it with both hands…….

“ ….. if it were easy, everyone would do it ….”
