some one is selling thses on ebay, 76mm round, you put them in the air in take pipe ,when the engine srart;s, it make;s the fan spin, they say drawing more air into the pipe, so better runing /speed ect;s?cost is 10 pounds,

I used to have an electric version bought off ebay, used to kick in at a certain throttle position, yes it did work and gave a definite kick but I was concerned at the quality and wondered what the result would be when the fan blades decided to leave the shaft and head into the engine, ive still got it tucked up in a cupboard in the garage.

In effect the principal sounds ok but i would think that all its actually doing is interrupting the airflow and hindering the volumetric flow rate, Air temperature might be cooler which is a bonus but i can't see it making a massive difference to performance...Enhancements to power are not cheap and a lot of the time non-cost effective as the cost out ways the reward.

I guess for a tenner it might be worth trying???..If it don't work in the air intake then you could fit it to an inlet pipe to feed the air filter from the nosecone....Ziga

On the basis that it doesn't have any drive/motor, then it HAS to REDUCE the airflow.

Why ?

There is the well known scientific principle/rule of 'conservation of energy' in Physics, which says, in a nutshell that you can't create (or destroy) energy, only convert it into another form

This also means that you can't get anything energy-wise for free.

So where does the energy come from to spin the fan ?? it HAS to come from the air flowing into the engine, and therefore it HAS to reduce that flow in some way, NEVER improve it.

Just my 2c worth.....

Exactly right!

If it is powered (i.e. electric) it can only slow the air down by getting in the way. It doesn't matter how fast it spins.

If it's electric it might make a difference.

Wouldn't be for me though!

As said...But if you want more power do this..But this cost me 4K and ended in tears due to my impatience...4K that could of bought a V8....scratchchin...Now i have a V8....And i still have the blower.....hehe

I miss you Delilah.

What about magnetism?

That's free.

Seen one of these before but cant think where. The one I saw was fixed and was supposed to make the incoming air more turbulant if thats the correct word, and this had some effect on the engine.Better combustion I think but could be wrong.rolleyes

Hi Phil...There is actually a motor/Generator that was invented by someone in the states and that works purely on magnetism, It came about after they were trying to build a perpetual motion engine and although it works under its own power and produces 3KW its not perpetual as it needs someone to get it started..Even if someone did discover perpetual motion producing energy from it would be illegal as you cannot put tax on FREE energy..How bizarre is that!..

When i was young and good looking i used to breeze in and out of nightclubs and women were attracted to my magnetism...That sometimes resulted in me getting a good blow thingy...Is that the same thing?.....Ziga

Flicks (in Dartford)!

Edit: not that our paths crossed, just need to make that clear.

Ain't magnetism to do with flying saucers?
My initial point was that it's too cheap,so it's cheaply made and will fall apart and get sucked into ya expensive engine! Then ya fooked right up !!curse

Magnetism et al......

A generator which uses magnets is converting the energy from its ROTATION into electricty - that's easy to explain!!

magnetism (and gravity) - there's still a LOT of debate and argument about these - there are still a lot of people who don't believe in the Higgs Boson particle at all (this is supposed to be the source of gravity).

Magnetism - er... I can't remember for sure - but doesn't any object attracted to the magnet actually reduce its magnetism very slightly ?? Not sure.........any Physics people in our group ?? And you sure have to put energy INTO the bit of metal/steel/alloy in the first place to make it magnetic, I know that.

Oh, yeah I forgot that - that's the most obvious point, if it breaks, your engine is F**ked.

There are Earth magnets which are the strongest magnets known to man but also the most expensive..By the way surely our planet is perpetual...So it does exist?...Ziga

Er..... Zig, Forgive me if that was a joke....but just in case....

They are called earth magnets because they are made of RARE EARTH METALS, which have ultra high magnetic qualities. But they aren't magnetic to start with (not as far as I know anyway), they get zapped with a large electromagnet to set them up.....

and as to the planet being perpetual...well... did U know that the Earth's magnetic field is weakening at the moment ? and the moon is slowly but surely escaping ? Yes, true, honest.
