Had a small accident early morning on the 20th December involving only my vehicle and a low grass verge. Ended up breaking off the bottom of the bumper, broken under tray, ripped out wheel arch liner, nothing mechanical. Phoned up the insurance company and the approved repairer (mazda approved which was important) collected the car that afternoon and dropped off a courtesy car.

I understand that they didn't work over the Christmas holidays but I checked and the repair was approved the same day. Called up three times in total so far:

6th Jan, was told the car would be ready for the 8th
8th Jan, was told it would now be the afternoon of the 10th or the morning of the 11th
13th Jan, was now told that they were still awaiting parts and couldn't tell me an estimated completion date

Am I wrong to be slightly concerned or paranoid about this? The parts aren't hard to source from mazda with the car only being 6 months old (2013 Mx5). Am I over reacting by being tempted to drive down there and asking to see the car?

Your car, your right to see the car. So long as you aren't being really arsey about it, I should think it was ok to go see whats going on with your car. Who knows, maybe they have uncovered some other damage or noticed anything else that might need doing or needing attention in the near future.

A colleague has just had his Mazda3 repaired and there were lengthy delays in sourcing bits, even though it was being done at a main dealer. It's quite possible it's nothing to worry about, but they should be doing better to identify a more realistic finish date.

The only thing stopping me going down there is that I'm worried it'll get their backs up. I don't like other people working on my cars at the best of times especially people I've never met. I'll give them to the end of the week....

eta..

Just ring them and say you think you've left something in the glove box that you need. Tell them you'll be there this afternoon (or when ever).

That way you've got an excuse with out coming across as paranoid or arsy.

Be worried if they say "No."

May be waiting for a minor part, car not allowed to be given back until fully repaired - terms of approved repairer agreement.

Had a similar situation at my old brokerage years ago, customer damaged his LWB Vitara and was in a loan car for a length of time, attitude was 'what's the problem, you have a free new loan car'. Loan car being a Ka which was not much good to carry his 2 big dogs around, garage would not release Vitara as was waiting for parts.

Turned out a couple of clips to hold grill in were on back order. Agreed client could have own car returned with cable ties holding in grill pending delivery of correct clips.

Everyone happy including garage who could lend Ka out again.

Perhaps you have same senario, worth chatting to garage.

If it is parts, could the parts be coming from overseas like the ones Honda is expecting?

"""CAR giant Honda’s Swindon factory has been forced to shut down for another day tomorrow after bad weather delayed deliveries of parts.

The factory near South Marston halted production on Wednesday when container ships delivering components used to build the cars struggled to cross oceans churned up in the bad weather.

The hostile conditions delayed many shipments through Europe, including to Southampton where the parts will need to be delivered before coming on to Swindon.

Finally collected the car this evening on the way into work. Was pouring down with rain at the time so only noticed a missing part from each side of the bumper and a few clips missing. Spoke to the bodyshop manager and apparently they hadn't noticed? (How could you not notice this on both sides?)

Apparently they'll order it in the morning and the delays in getting the parts have been due to Mazda keeping no parts in the UK and they have to be shipped in from Japan?

Just managed to get it under some light at work and this is what I've found. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves but needless to say it'll be going straight back in the bodyshop tomorrow morning.
