There is nothing wrong with my sturdy non hdmi plasma panny viera , but looking at the smart televisions in Curry's i'm starting to feel i'm missing out what with the capabilities these TV's have. I stream a lot of football & Cricket but have to watch it on my mac rather than on the big screen. i assume the TV Just acts like a pc & would stream the pictures itself.
My panny seems so well built i don't think it's ever going to go wrong, I'm really thinking of just replacing it.
Any recommendations at around £1000,00 ? i looked at an LG that was rather large but it just lacked a bit of crispness,
We have always bought Panasonic , but the other brands seem to offer more for your buck.
please help , confused south london

If you are buying just for the Smart features, I think that Samsung are the best of the bunch.
However, I don't think you need to buy a TV just for the Smart features, especially streaming.
I have got a Samsung TV with the latest 2013 Smart features, but my main streaming device is the £99 Apple TV that is connected to it. That allows me to stream anything that I have got on my Mac, Airplay anything directly from my iPad/iPhone as well as having the best interface for Netflix (imo).
Most Virgin/Freeview/Sky/Blu Ray players will give you access to the catch up TV services if that is what you are after.
This Samsung Blu Ray player for £99 actually seems to have exactly the same Smart features as their current TVs:

The advantage of buying these features in a Blu Ray player is that when they become hopelessly out of date in 2 years time, you can sell the player on and replace it for a net £50 to get you back up to date. To do the same with a Smart TV will probably cost you 10x that.

If you intend streaming from within a browser from one of the many dodgy sites I think you are going to be disappointed.
The browser on a smart tv is not the same as you get o a computer. For a start there's no flash and most streaming sites use flash.
I have a mini pc hooked up to a tv via hdmi, works well, the only problem is it's running xp and with support ending soon I'm giving Linux a go.
Hopefully sometime soon they'll bring out tvs with full browser support, then I might be tempted

Cheers , yes after a bit of research & thinking more clearly about it, what i really want is a full hd picture & large screen, i mean i could just buy an extra long HDMI cable to connect from my mac or even one of the kids laptops for what i really want the smart telly to do. all the catch up stuff i can do from the Skybox & ipads etc.The browser on a smart tv is not the same as you get o a computer. For a start there's no flash and most streaming sites use flash.
