Hi Guys,

My wipers "stuck" the opther day, and stopped moving - stopped the car and tried to physically move them to parked position (with the wipers switched on). Didn't really want to move but I forced it...

Predictably, this has caused a problem...

The passenger side wiper now seems to have a mind of its own, and its movements bear no relation to what is happening with the drivers side...

I I take the passenger side wiper off, and return the wipers to parked position, then re-attach it where it should be ("parked" position) - as soon as I switch it on, it seems to almost instantly go half a phase out compared to the other wiper, and within 2-3 stokes will become entangled with the driver's side one...

I am guessing(!) that i may have damaged/miscalibrated the linkage in some manner by forcing it - but cannot see for the life of me how you are supposed to access the linkage...

The metal mesh below the windscreen appears to cover it, but seems to be riveted in, rather than bolted - so how on earth are you supposed to access the linkage to perform repairs..?

Or might it be something else entirely?

Any help much appreciated,

Dom

You've either stripped the rack or the pinion by the sounds of it. You'll have to remove the top of the motor housing so you can draw the flexible rack back to inspect. It's possible to rotate the pinions by 180 degrees and turn the rack over to provide new wear faces.
