I tried a pair of the newer model Beats Studio on when travelling through the airport a few weeks ago and really liked the comfort of them and couldn't complain about the audio quality. It's a big improvement on the iphone in ear buds I currently use most of the time.

I will be using them in the office and at home using bluetooth, listening to music on my phone, pc, games consoles and on airplane journeys where I'd like noise cancelling.

I know Beats aren't thought of too highly, but other than the price, I quite liked them. What alternatives should I look at?

I can get Sony MDR-1RBT at a reasonable price, but they don't have noise cancelling

I've got the Bose QC3's and I cannot fault them, especially as far as the noise cancelling is concerned. They are amazingly comfortable too.

Sennheiser MM-450x
- Bluetooth or wired as backup
- noise cancelling
- travel case and foldable small enough to fit in a pocket
- rechargeable and replaceabile battery so you can carry more than 1 if you need extended wireless play. failing that, just revert to wired
- control volume, fwd, back, pause, play, on the headphone earpiece. They even pause play video when watching vids on my PC
- 'talkthru' feature - uses in built microphone meaning you can still hold a conversation while wearing them
- telephone compatible with microphone in the headset as well
- usual sennheiser quality and 'fixability'
- aptx codec bluetooth for maximum quality
- comfort is fine for me, I've worn them for 4/5 hrs on a plane with no issues and I have a big head.

bigger 550x of you want over ear

Downsides
- not cheap
- noise cancelling not as good as the Bose.

job jobbed

When i looked - it was a toss up between these and the Bose, but the Sennheisers offer more flexibility and features.

I got them cos i was fed up with having several earphones for different situations, and these did everything I wanted a pair of earphones to do.

I have a pair of these and absolutely love them. The isolation is very good, so don't let that put you off. Battery life is superb too at around 30 hours off a single charge.

You may also want to have a look at the Parrot Zik which is Bluetooth compatible and has active noise cancelling built in too.
