Does anyone have recommendations for a decent waxer based in London. The time has come to put the first coat of wax on my Z06 and I'd like it to be done properly, though after this weekend I'm tempted just to do it myself!!!

I went round a few places and they all (gleefully) said that they were more than happy to charge me out the wazoo for the privilege of them taking a power buffer to the car. Before leaving the US I was strongly advised not to let anyone near the car with one of those as done incorrectly I was likely to be left with permanent swirls in the (currently perfect) clearcoat. If nobody has any suggestions I might just take myself to the nearest Ferrari dealer and ask them to do it!!!!

While I applaud the sentiment of 'DIY' for me it'd be a last resort. I have a long history of waxing my previous cars and I've never been able to get the finish that I wanted. Since my Z06 is the first car that I've owned from new I'm more than happy to pay a pro to do a proper job on the first coat. It's finding an appropriate pro that's the problem.

In my case, taking pride in my car needs to take account of my limitations in being able to do a good job.

I do not think you will ever find an "appropriate pro" for the simple reason that it is YOUR car and not theirs. No-one will ever take the same care that the owner would. Furthermore, it is in the interests of the valeter to complete your car as quickly as possible. He may cut corners, probably use automated equipment (you can never beat a hand job!!!!!) and possibly inferior products.

No-one touches my car except me. If you let someone else do it then you must accept the consquences of their actions (good or bad).

I say DIY or get another Corvette owner to do it (I'm available, very cheap and would even use Meguiars on it - a valeter wouldn't)

Zaino
Tried Autoglym, meguires and a load of others I can't even remember and Zaino looks like you have paintwork you can dip your hand in.

Trouble is no one over here stocks it so you have get it sent over but well worth the effort.

My garage has more bottles of polish in it than Halfords as I've tried just about everything (including buying from QVC - something I said I'd never do, but did).

I've been using Meguiars for a while as it doesn't powder. Zaino has some superb write ups on the US forums which say exactly what Alan says above. However some people have been disappointed with it but this also applies to Meguiars so I suppose its all down to personal preference.

I was going to buy a Zaino kit when I was in the US in August but in the end decided on more Meguiars and bought some NXT but haven't used it yet.

You can get Zaino from Germany:

I am a DIY Autoglym/Meguiars guy but try the Zymol system. My neighbour had his new 911 done. They spent pretty much a whole day on the car and it looked great. Cost about 200 I think
