Following some damage to car wing mirrors not far from where I live by some pointless chimps, local residents have been advised by the police to fold their mirrors in to help prevent this. But wouldn't this make it it look like the owners care and so more appealing to the chimps? Some cars like my Ibiza & E46s mirrors fold up rather than around which probably makes them even more tempting to pull off? :-( So good advice by plod or not?

Mine is parked on the pavement and never get any problems with the mirrors. I don't bother folding them. I won't lie though i have thought about exactly this.

If someone is intentionally damaging mirrors then folding them in won't make any difference.

Exactly - if someone wants to vandalise a car for the fun of it, then more than likely they're going to do it anyway, regardless of whether the mirrors are folded or not.

When I park on a road I usually fold in the mirror that's sticking out into the traffic. Gives drivers who don't know the width of their vehicles less opportunity to strike my mirror.

My brother lives in a "less desirable" area and has on-road parking. He folds in the mirror that sticks out towards the pavement, but the local car vandalising scum see it as an opportunity to bend the mirror right back in the opposite direction. rolleyes
