Hi,

I am looking for ways to gain weight, not anything gym related but I could do with putting about a stone on and struggling to do it.

I am 6ft and weigh 10st 9pounds, I used to weigh a bit more than this and felt a lot healthier but been fairly stressed/busy the past 8 months and its dropped off me, was down to 10st 4pounds at one point!

Anyway what do you recommend to get this weight back on and soon ideally, struggling to get past 11st the past few weeks.

I have looked online and I am mostly eating the right foods. I was thinking about some form of protein shake or similar?

I think the problem is I am travelling/busy a lot so 5-6 hours can easily pass without food. Maybe protein bars as snacks in between?

Let me know what you think.
Thanks

Hoofy

Eat more carbs. Preferably the non-processed kinds.

IMO, get your workout sorted, your appetite will rocket and you'll gain weight; just try and eat the right sort of foods but don't be too obsessive.
Force feeding does sweet FA.
I gained three stone that way having struggled for ages stuffing food down my face but doing the wrong sort of workout.

Don't obsess protein. So long as you're getting 1-1.5g per kg of bodyweight that is AMPLE. You basically need to consume foods that are calorifically dense. Eat lots of peanut butter and spread it thickly; pour olive oil all over salads; snack on bags of nuts (v easy to eat 500+ cals like this); pour double cream on your puddings (no its not "unhealthy") etc etc. It really isn't rocket science.

You can eat protein untill you're blue in the face, it's pretty impossible for anyone to eat it in the amount you'd need to for it to be turned into fat. You aren't working out so it's not going to help with lean muscle either. Try zone diet style, fill 1/3 of your plate with proteins and the other 2/3 with Low GI cabrs, vegtables/fruits etc and then spinkle with essential fats. Olives, olive oil, nuts etc.

full fat milk, 6 to 8 pints a day plus your normal food and you will put on a stone in a month.

6ft and 10st !?

What's your diet like currently? Do you go to the gym or anything?

Increase intake of whole foods plenty of animal protein and healthy carbs and fats but needs to be gradual.... if suddenly start consuming 1000's of calories then your body wont be set up in terms of metabolism to handle this and will more than likely get fat.

If you are not getting any exercise all this weight is just going to be flab. If that's what you really want, just eat biscuits and cake and drink beer. That'll work!

If you want to be bigger and fitter, I would second "sort your workout" and eat big: "meat and green veg and lots of it" is a good basic rule.

Just cook massive portions of your favourite meals. It's all about upping the calorie intake.

If you're not hungry then do squats at the gym.

I'm 6ft and used to weigh 10 stone, but I'm now almost 13 stone. It does take time.

Very difficult to say not knowing what your actual diet is like.
Slowly increase your portion sizes is a fairly straight forward way to go.

Nuts and seeds are the perfect things to bulk up with if you don't have the time to eat. Just mix some different types up and put them in a lunchbox/container and keep them with you. They keep long, well and easily in all temperatures so you can keep a stash in your glovebox of your car for e.g. Grab a handful, 300kcals, takes seconds to eat.

Good protein, fats and the right sort of carbs.

Pumpkin seeds, cashews, almonds and peanuts will give you a good macro nutrient and amino acid mix.

How's your appetite? If it's not big then you might struggle.

Things like nuts and cheese are filling, so you might not get enough of them to gain weight.

Exercise would certainly help to stimulate your appetite if you're not eating enough. If you have the will power to lift weights on a regular basis then you'll be on your way, as you'll want to eat more, thus gaining weight and you'll increase muscle mass too.

Pretty small I imagine else how would he be 10 stone at 6 foot?

Come again? They are some of the most calorie dense foods out there. Ergo its easy to eat a lot of calories relative to the satiety provided by them. What would you suggest is better?

OP has specifically said he is not interested in the gym.

There was no mention of his appetite, so it was a valid question. He mentioned stress, which is different even though it is probably affecting his appetite. As for nuts and cheese, I know they're calorific, my point was he needs to make the most of them and eat more than a little. And yes, I missed the bit about not wanting to go to the gym. But firing up an appetite through exercise would be beneficial - weights at home maybe?

You're struggling to put on weight? I have a solution:

- Have an Indian buffet
- Have a Chinese buffet
- Copious amounts of chicken skewered kebabs
- Lots of cheesecakes
- Lots of steaks
- Lots of roast beef and yorkshire pudding dinners
etc

The above or a cr@ppy protein shake? I know what I would enjoy more.
