Hi.

Just wondering if Mercedes do an equivalent of Ford's "options" plan. This is where you effectively HP a car over three years, then:

1) Give it back and walk away (basically making it contract hire)
2) Refinance and buy (basically making it HP)
3) Use car as a deposit against another.

We did this with a Fiesta 10 years ago and it actually worked out pretty well for our circumstances at the time. I'm looking for long term ownership proposition (10-15 years) and don't really want to just "rent". That said, if it all goes tits up at work I've got a break period on the horizon at 3 years where I COULD just walk away.

Mercedes website doesn't make it absolutely clear if they have an equivalent.

TIA

The finance section of the Mercedes website has a few schemes to part you from your cash, "Agility" sounds like what you may want.

Ah yes. When I tell them 110,000 miles over three years I'll expect to leave to the sound of laughter and someone lubing themselves up.

Can't remember having to do this with Ford - but maybe we did. I've been to sleep since...

most Mercedes can be leased far cheaper via independents than from merc

i was looking at the C63 late last year and i could save an easy 50% over what merc would lease it for, some entry level Cs are £200ppm from independents

If you know you want to keep it for 10-15 years and you're doing 110K miles in 3 year, what about a bank loan over that period?

Mercedes Agility - my SLK is on it.

You can get some very good deals on MBs, either through MB or someone like Freedom or Lings.
Despite what MB tell you, you don't get anything extra going via them; I went via Freedom and once they've sorted all the details they then hand you off to Mercedes Finance and you then deal with them. Freedom seem to have a lot of cheap deals.

Get it on ordinary HP say over 5 years then if you do cover a high mileage you can do a voluntary termination once you've paid half of the amount owing. The finance provider will hate you, but there's nothing they can do about it.

Does the condition of the car matter if you VT? My Kia has a fair few scratches inside and out, it's on 5 year HP and I was thinking about VTing it next year.

Without looking it up, I think the Consumer Credit Act says it has to be in reasonable condition.

It's something that comes up with PCPs and end of PCP charges - the legal definition of reasonable is likely to be far more generous than the finance company's. I've also seen people claim that they VT'd a PCP when they were way over mileage and didn't get surcharged as the Act makes additional charges unlawful.

As he said, he doesn't want to be tied to something in case he loses his job.

He's not tied in to anything - he can sell the car at any time and pay back the loan at any time.

Fair point!
