DBS - can kids fit comfortably?
Discussion
I'm considering a DBS as a semi-everyday car. Would need to be able to fit my 5 and 3 year olds in the back, is this possible? Comfortably? I'm 6 foot tall but sit with my seat pretty far forward in my cars.
Also, anybody moved from a 911 to a DBS, just wondering what you thought of the different driving experience?
Thanks!

my kids fit in the back of the db9 (which i guess should be the same), but with some compromise on the driving position
i presume your wife will be occupying the passenger seat? if not putting the 5 year old there with the 3 year old behind is very easy
of course the sensible advice (i guess we have to offer that sometimes) is to go get test it our with the kids in tow

AMDBSNick is our resident expert on this subject and even made mention of using his Tandoori Express on the school run recently. Doubtless he will be along shortly (talking of which I think he might be a tad under 6ft
)
I am indeed a kerb basher
)I do indeed use it for the school run
I have no rear seats

Would you like me to post a picture

I'd like to know how you find the experience. Did you go manual or auto? If auto, what you think of the box? Does it feel like a barge?I'm trying to arrange a test drive but will have to do a full days travelling by the looks of it.
If it helps - I've had mine 3 years and love it . I can get my 3 yr old in the back but my wife is quite short - it's very tight back there but can be done ( my advice is try it - it may not suit everyone's taste )
I went auto as I enjoyed it best and wanted the ability to relax or hit the sport button and rag it a bit , I think it does that really quite well in the real world .Try both boxes , it's personal choice

Love it,but I need to qualify that all the 911s I had were my sole car apart from the 997turbo,so I used the911s daily, whereas the DBS is mostly a weekend toy, that is not to say it cannot be used on a daily basis it can.I went for a manual as I prefer manuals,so can't comment on the auto .I'm trying to arrange a test drive but will have to do a full days travelling by the looks of it.
The dbs is a GT car,not a sports car so compared to a 911 it has some positives and negatives,so I will try to give a quick summary.
Dynamically the car is fantastic ,great steering, maybe not the feedback of a 997 but I found the constant chattering of steering on the 997s a pain on a long journey. The gearchnage on the manual has a very mechanical feel and needs a very positive arm action to use,it is slower than the 997 manuals in terms of changing gear ,but I always had the short shift option on my 911s ,it is a good gearbox and combined with the monumental torque means you don't have to change gear that often anyway ,it pulls from most speeds in any gear.
The brakes are magnificent, easily the best of any car I have owned...apart from the bloody squealing (for which there is a solution which I haven't yet got round to doing. )
The ride is much better than any 997s and obviously it's different class on motorways with much reduced road noise compared to a 911.
The car handles well,it never feels like a barge, but front engine 510bhp rwd means lots of sideways action if you want ,on a b road you wouldn't really see which way a 997 went due to the size and its just not as nimble ,but you would be having a lot of fun.
Compared to a 997 the fuel economy is atrocious ,but mine and everyone elese's it seems has been very reliable and servicing is around 1k/year .
One big area it loses out in is traction vs a 997,foot to the floor I've had traction issues in 3rd gear on dry summer roads ,and in the wet care is needed.
The engine ..apart from its awful fuel consumption is just epic ,It pulls low down like a 997t,but can scream all the way to the redline and sounds just sublime .
Finally we have the looks/image etc.As much as I liked my 911s never once did I say come back to the car and just stop and stare at it ,something I do on a regular basis with the dbs .It has a feel good factor way beyond any 911 ,it just makes you feel great ,and finally people love it ...the reaction is amazing.I have a 3 car rule...pull up at a main road from a side street and no more than 3 cars will pass before someone waves you in ,that never happens in a porsche .
If you want a sportscar stick with a porsche or r8 etc or consider a vantage ,they are better on b roads and tracks ,but if you want a wider array of talents then try a dbs.
I have a DB9 volante, my 7 year old daughter who is in 10 year old clothes rides in the back behind me, seat a Poole compromised, with my 2year old in a group 1 car seat behind my wife, with the seat right forward. It's fine for up to an hou, any longer would be uncomfortable. If your 3year old is heavy enough to ride with just a booster it would make like better.
Although there is the obvious question of safety and being comfortable with that.
If you want to go on longer journies you need a rapide, but for short blasts all the family can enjoy, it works.

My 2 boys happily get into the back of the DBS. 7 year old behind the passenger seat and 5 year old behind me. I'm 5' 10'' so a relative short a
e.
I do find I have to move my seat a bit further forward but it's not really a problem. No issues at all on the school run or short trips and they'd much rather go in the Aston than the RRS. Haven't tried it for a longer journey yet but up to an hour seems fine. If my wife's not in the car the 7 yr old can go in the front seat and the 5 yr old behind him. Hopefully we'll get at least a couple of years use like this before they get too big. I only hope my actions are not stunting their growth!

Thanks for all the replies.
Is there any internal space differences in the back between the Volante and Coupe?
I've managed to arrange a test drive at lunchtime in the only DBS that I think is for sale within a couple of hundred miles of me.
Definitely is in the boot - that lid and a very heavy motor have to go somewhere Is there any internal space differences in the back between the Volante and Coupe?
