Afternoon PH,

My tax runs out on my shed at the end of the month, and as I've got m bike, and touch wood we're over the worst of the weather (jinxed it now!) I'm planning on sorting it until the end of the year.

It's nothing special, it's a 1997 Audi A4. It's tatty as hell, and is purely to get me from a to b.

Do I need to do anything special with it before leaving it or a few months? I was planning on just leaving it, but thought I better check.

Whilst I'm here, should perhaps be in sp&l, but am I able to keep it on my drive whilst it's sorned and still insured? It's only £40 a month for the insurance, and the extra years no claims would be nice. Or am I not able to keep the insurance going if it's sorned?

Thanks! Sorry if it's been asked a lot, tried searching but couldn't find anything easily!

You can have insurance and no tax, but not the other way round I think.

It would probably be ok, but I'd put it on a trickle charger or a solar charger to keep the battery in good shape. Also, chock the wheels and leave the handbrake off.

You might as well keep it insured to gain extra NCB, and to pay out if it's stolen. Other things you could do are leave it in gear instead of on the handbrake, disconnect the battery, and maybe pump up the tyres a bit (or leave on axle stands?)

Yep, no problem at all.

Yesterday morning, there were two SORNed/insured cars in my drive and a third in my garage at the moment... One of 'em got MOT'd and retaxed yesterday, though.

As far as the battery goes, just disconnect the earth lead. Obviously, you'll need to lock all the doors manually.
