Yeah, if you value your paintwork keep well away fom any other cars. My Chim had just had a front end respray when i went to Bruntingthorpe but now its peppered with stone chips. I was gutted , i didnt notice until i got home and put it in the garage.
Anybody got a spare starmist blue touch up?

This is only a problem on the main runway, which is 100 yards wide so no reason to follow close behind anyone. It seems to be a lot worse at the start of the year, I guess the winter breaks up the surface and releases the stone chips. I've been there several times over the last few months and not had any problems with stone chips.

Its being discussed on this thread: www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&f=18&t=133381

Cost £125 or £100 if you get £50 sponsorship, car preps as usual, make sure it is mechanically sound and fluid levels etc OK, no special preparation required. You will need a helmet, don't know if they will be available to hire on the day but no doubt the organiser (MidgetMagoo) could tell you.

Bruntingthorpe - I've spent a few hours there.
Hardly the most entertaining tracks, but nonetheless, good fun, especially when it's not too busy.
The concrete surface likes to shred tyres, so too much drifting can be expensive.
My main suggestion, if you value your paint, get as much space between you and the car in front as you use the two major straights and the nice long bend between the two. The twisty bits aren't too bad with a reasonable surface, but the straights are the original runway surface that's been patched with bitumen as the frost has penetrated over the years. It's hunks of black stuff and degrading concrete that eat paint.
I find the two mile straight OK if you're alone, but be aware of anyone joining you from the right if they're using the 'short' track with the esses.
Similarly, if you use the short track, be very wary of someone over you left shoulder doing 150 plus - it can be a little unnerving.
Also, be mindful of your braking points, it's very easy to misjudge the turn-in after the relaxation of two mile straight. The cones to mark turn-in, apex, exit do have a habit of wandering, although there are count-down markers on your right (300, 200, 100 metres). Plus, there's is no run-off at the sharp right hander immediately after the straight.
Personally I enjoy the short track - maxing out is fine for the first few times, but after that I like to drive the car rather than sit and watch the speedo needle.

On this occasion, I'm not able to go, my son's going into hospital for an operation on Sat. 20th, but to anyone that is going - drive well, drive safe and have a fabulous day.

I forgot. The terms and conditions of the course state that anyone driving an open car or anything over 100mph wears a crash helmet. They also stipulate 'road legal' exhausts - I think it wakes the natives if it's too loud, although I've never seen either rule rigorously policed.

Have a good safe day!

Take it steady at first if its your 1st time there; the track is so wide it is very deceptive how fast you are going till you get used to the brake points.

Brunters is a great place, have many happy memories from the v-max days there.

Best Regards

Martyn.
