Hi guys,
I think it is fair to say the vast majority of Petrolheads have dreamed of being a race car driver or owning a supercar... I've had my Z06 for a year and a half now, I've driven it every day, babied it, taken road trips in it, done track days in it, and even raced (and won) Auto Cross events in it...so to say it has been enjoyed is an understatement!

The trouble is I have a group of friends who own race cars and compete in a championship here in Qatar and the restrictions mean the car has to be 2.0 and the engine and gearbox must be untouched except for basic getting air in the engine and getting exhaust gas out.. Everything else is pretty much fair game! I've been to watch them and I must say watching them coming 2 and 3 cars side by side down the pit straight looks like immense fun!

Recently I've been getting tired of driving the Z06 and have considered selling it on more than one occaision, I mentioned this to some of my friends who race incase they were interested in buying and one has put me in touch with a guy who owns Matt Neals old EP3 Honda Civic Halfords BTCC car which has been sat in storage for the last 8 months ready for the owner to go racing (it has a new engine and gearbox and spare sets of tyres and body panels and a load of other spares included).

My question to you lot is, would you think I'm crazy for selling the Z06, buying a nice daily drive and taking the Civic plus having a chunk of change left over?

For me it would be a dream realised but in a way it would also be giving up another dream.

Term "super car" is very diluted these days.

You've had your fun with it now move on.

Racing is big fun and big price.

Worst I may buy mat Neil's old touring car thread ever.

You are the only one that can answer this Q.

Yada yada yada next.

It's a triggers broom of a car, nothing like it was when he drove it really, just wanted to illustrate what it was because race car can mean anything from a single seater to a demolition derby car.

I think I've already made my mind up, but I was interested in opinions of petrolheads as I have doubts.

If you fancy racing before you make a huge commitment eg buying a race car. Gain your race license and do a couple of arrive and drive races.
You will then no for sure if you want to commit. Or go back to reversing your vet round car parks

Edit. I may well be confusing auto cross with auto test

If you're sure you can afford it, and are happy to give up the muscle, then go for it! Life's too short for regrets.

I would do it. The difference between a fast road car and a proper race car is huge. I don't think you'll regret it and even if you do I doubt you'll lose much on the civic as long as you don't crash it.

I had a passenger ride in a ep3 race car. It was immense. Made the road car seem like a micra in comparison.
