Looking for a cheap Motoring hobbie, was thinking disco 200 or mx5 both bullet proof reliable just conserned about breakages and overall cost, whichever vehicle needs to also be a daily driver, your thoughts on most financially viable?
Thanks

Greenlaning is free but very area-dependent (are there many green lanes/byways near you?). You'll also inevitably come into conflict with other users (walkers, farmers, cyclists, horse riders) regardless of how well-behaved and polite you're being.

Trackdays cost but airfield days at least seem widely available and you tend not to come into conflict with others (the organiser might but the users won't).

I've never broken the Caterham on a track day and a relative lightweight like a MX5 should be pretty easy on tyres/brakes/etc. I have come across stranded 4x4s on local byways when out running - I'd imagine that would be annoying if it was your daily driver too. Obviously just anecdotal. I guess both will depend on how cautiously/recklessly you drive on tracks/greenlanes.

Thanks, yes theres a few local areas for greenlaning and only 30mins from olton park, tyre wear and event cost is cheaper on 4x4 but do they have many brakages ? I actually have the mx5 goin on a novice day in a months time just seems a very expensive hobbie making it more of a rarity for me than off roading.

Given the mentally deficient DM readers are doing well in their efforts to ban laning (and subsequentlly most fun activities), track days may last longer. rolleyes

No idea on greenlaning breakages. Airfield days tend to be cheaper than track days.

Do you mean green laning or off-road play days? Green laning is free and you're insured as they are public roads, and the possibility of damage is almost non-existent. If people are doing it in a way that is causing damage to their trucks, they are not doing it right. Play days, on the other hand, which are held at old quarries and the like, cost about £20 for a day's playing and can cause serious damage, depending on how keen you get! You can still have a good day's fun though without causing any damage.
