As the title suggests.
Ideally something that will do a good steak plus have vegetesbian options (but neither are essential)
Ideally University end of town but not essential.

Thanks in advance

La Vaca? for a good steak but not sure about the veggie options. Or Artisan is nice, or Lokanta for Turkish food. Can't think of anything else up that side.

I googled last night and set my heart on that place (La Vaca). Looks fantastic but no tables available for Saturday hence this thread.
What a funny coincidence.
Ill have a look at the others.

Seems like Artisan has closed

Obviously I won't eat Turkish food, the filthy devils.

Thanks. Looks nice but a bit formal. We'll have 3 youngish kids with us hence somewhere a bit more casual

La Vaca would have been my first choice too, it's superb.

There's a new place that's opened up near to the Mercure/Pizza Express called Smoke BBQ that may be an acceptable family alternative. Their website is a bit light as they seem to do most of their customer interaction on FB or Twitter. Some colleagues went there and gave it a big thumbs up.

We went to Smoke Bbq a couple of weeks ago, it was okay.. Clearly some teething problems as it has only just opened.

Also, depending on the age of the "family" they do not have a children's menu.

There are plenty of good restaurants on Eccleshall road:

Mud Cafe
La Tasca
Yankees
Relish

etc..

Anecdotally I used to work there as a pot washer when I was at school. Terrible memories but lovely burgers.

If the steak is optional, maybe try The broadfield on abbeydale road, very good food at very good prices! The Ham Hock is incredible, as are the pies.

Tropeiros (I think its called that) in Leopold square is a Brazilian meat buffet kind of place but with a twist, sooo much meat and it's all very good quality! would recommend that.

Yankees use to be amazing when I was a kid. Everyime I've been since I've been massively disappointed!

Looks good but no reservations/walk in and wait for table which could be long and arduous on Sat night with kids.

ETA:

http://smokebbq.co.uk/

Try here, I'm fairly certain it will be limited on veggie options and it appears to be finger food, No idea how this reflects with regard to your children.

ETA: Missed the previous posts on smoke bbq!

La Vaca is bloody awesome.

Broadfield pub is very very good - as above the ham hock is superb. (as is their whisky selection)

Ego inside the St Pauls Hotel is also pretty damn good for steak.

Graze was good too last time I went.

Is Smoke really that bad? I love BBQ - only La Vaca comes close really and its not proper American BBQ.

Maybe it was because it has just opened but it wasn't great. Not a patch on Gaucho.
