Insurance on a group 20 at 24...
Discussion
Looking for a bit of advice here.
I'm currently 24, turning 25 next month. I've been driving since I was 21 (3 and a half years). I have 1 year NCD in my own name and 2 years as a named driver with Admiral (but only Admiral will recognise this I think). No accidents, but I do have 3 points (SP30) plus have attended an SAC.
Insuring my Boxster S is fine, quotes are around £1,200.
I'm looking to buy a TVR Sagaris, mostly as an investment. As such, despite living in London (SW11) I plan on storing the car outside of London in a specialist garage (locked compound) and will be covering 2,000 miles a year. The car won't be left in London overnight ever and will barely ever be driven there.
Explaining that to online companies is obviously impossible, the best quote I've managed to get is nearly £5,000! Is there a realistic way I can get it significantly cheaper (£2k is probably my limit) or am I pissing into the wind?

When they ask for your location, if you read the details they're usually asking where the car will be kept overnight.
They ask separately for address and where it's kept overnight. I had the same problem with the Boxster, old postcode added £3k.You need to get some quotes from specialists and brokers to see what they come up with. I'd have posted this in the TVR section to see who those guys are insured with and what sort of premiums they have.
Your best bet will probably be an agreed value 'classic' policy with limited mileage. I'm fairly sure a Sagaris would qualify for that.

Could be wrong but think Manning require you to be 30.OP. I was 24 in September when I purchased my M3. Online quotes were ludicrous - you need to get on the blower to some specialists and inform them of your circumstances. I have had a classic car on a classic policy with Grove and Dean since i was 23 so they will do under 25's. Maybe try them.
I also run a daily driver which does all my commuting miles, and this is what I needed to explain over the phone to someone. The m3 is used as a second car and thus doesn't do many miles. I went with Adrian Flux for this and got it down to around 780 for the M3 when i was 24 with 8000 miles pa. They asked more questions about my daily driver than they did about the m3.

I do wish you the best of luck with this, I used to live in W4 but now live in the sticks. I am the same age as yourself and my car insurance halved when I moved out of London. I would definitely say when you turn 25 it might open some doors, but otherwise best of luck.
One thing perhaps worth trying is Admiral's multi-car policy, as they allow you to mirror your NCD between cars. So if you have one year NCD on the boxster, you'll get a year's NCD on the Sagaris. At the prices they're quoting, that could be a huge discount.
