"If you’re packing £3000 and want to bag a used sports car, there are plenty to choose from. There’s also ample opportunity to get it horrifically wrong. Here are five budget sports cars you should avoid at all costs."

Treat the entire article with the contempt it deserves.

I bought one when they were new, that exact model, what was I on?
1) Rubbish build
2) Rubbish performance
3) Rubbish gearbox, crunched the gears when driving it off the forecourt, crunched them every subsequent gear change.

Only positives were reasonably pretty on the eyes and a lot of toys for the money.

Apart from the MX5 none of the others are "sports cars" so who ever the numpty was that wrote that article needs to clearly understand what they are talking about.

I once owned an Audi & that was proper ste, does it mean they are all like that? NO.

and I love my crossfire & actually prefer it to both my previous elises that I owned so stick that in your pipe & smoke ittongue out

Drove one once.

Was awful. The gear throw was like taking something off the back seats and putting it in the glovebox and vice versa.

Seeing the mk2 mx5 in there does snappily discredit the whole "article", not that it looked very good to start with.

Am I the only one unaware of a 1.9 8 Valve BMW engine? The 1.8 M42 yes but the M44 as fitted to the Z3 is a 16 valve and actually very drivable, sure hardly the fastest thing out of the block but can be very rewarding!
