Flexible working & interviews

Most IT roles allow some home working and flexibility these days, basically I look to work in a company where they aren't too bothered about me what time I come in and if I have 3 minutes extra for lunch as long as I get my work done. So how do you approach this at an interview, I like to WFH on the odd occasion as it saves on commuting costs/time when the job is an hour commute. I also like to be able to come in early and go home early if I have something to do. But how do you find this out before or during an interview?
And also, is it imperative to shave before an interview. I always have done but don't shave at any other time and quite frankly I looked like a 12 year old with a clean shave.

With regards to shaving/generally looking smart, I would say "yes". For me it looks like you've made an effort. I'm not saying it's the only (or even main) thing that employers look for but if you have 2 or 3 candidates that are roughly equal in other areas, then this might be one of the things that tips the scales in your favour. (I can't imagine anybody being marked down for looking TOO smart but I'm sure there will be some PHer who turned up for a job interview looking like a tramp and was immediately offered a £100k job and a nubile 18 year old secretary)
With regards to home working / flexible working I would only skirt around the issue at interview and then, if you're offered the job, explore options in more detail. Raising such a question at interview stage could potentially send warning signals to your "boss" if they have an old fashioned "Be at your desk at 8.55am" culture. Best to get an offer and then looking at all the working conditions and seeing what you can negotiate.

It is smart I think, I neaten the lines with a razor, just that I always have had a clean shave at every other interview and have always looked like a tit IMO. I look very young which is not always a good thing.obob said:

Well, it's hard to be definitive about it but I run an IT company and it wouldn't cause me a problem - there are a lot of worse things people do that their appearance in IT than that!I went for an interview earlier in the week in a shared office, and someone else turned up for an interview at another company wearing just trousers and shirt. There was silly me, all suited and booted!
As per above, last year I was offered a job against someone else where we were both equal purely because I was better presented (it was a customer facing job!). I declined it though

I'm customer facing too as well as in IT, I am pretty lucky in that I am able to turn down jobs hence looking for a flexible workplace, I've just been lucky so far apart from my last job which was strict 9 till 5.30 and no WFH etc and I wasn't a fan, so got myself something interim but its a fair commute and only a short contract.
