Evening all.

I have a car that's been in storage for a few months as i was saving for a new exhaust system.

Since being in storage the tax has expired and the MOT has expired as i needed the new exhaust.

My questions is,

I have a company that is going to fabricate and fit the exhaust but what are the rules for driving it there without T&T, i understand you can drive to an MOT booking but what about taking it for repairs prior to an MOT?

Thanks in advance.

As far as I am aware, it needs to be taxed, and being driven to a pre-booked MOT "Test" it also needs to be roadworthy.

Unless the place doing the repairs is also doing the MOT, it'll have to be trailered.

I think also the MOT station has to be the closest one - not one on the other side of the country..

It doesn't have to be the nearest one, an MoT on the other side of the country is fine - but this isn't necessarily a good idea if the vehicle has been off the road for a long time wink .

Sorted, found a company down the road from me to fit the exhaust who also have it booked in for an MOT, happy days.

1. Book MOT anywhere
2. Take car in for expected MOT failure
3. Drive car to garage which will perform exhaust repairs
4. Take car for retest (maybe still fails on non exhaust problems)
5. Drive home

All legal.
