DMS tune of a 997T

Have seen a couple of 997Ts in great colour spec, however they have been tuned. One by DMS to 550bhp

I'm not looking for a tuned one, std 480bhp is plenty however I'm after non black, grey or silver, manual with a couple of essential extras. A couple of cars tick the boxes .... but are tuned. eg

Couple of Q's I'd be grateful for advice on

- will it shorten engine life and potentially affect other components?
- can it be reversed?
- is there a big impact on insurance?

There are a few cars that seem nice if they pass an opc inspection. I'd either ask vendor or myself put any car you buy through 111 ppc inspection before you buy it and stick a opc warranty on it.

this car is not black - i believe its olive met green which is a lovely colour - surprised vendor does not know what colour it is as its especial order colour but car looks in lovely condition and is very high spec

this one is probably one of the best mezger turbos for sale as it has pcm 3 but bit pricey and no sports seats - worth extra cash if you can knock price down as pcm 2 average at best

Certainly plan to get an inspection on any car.

The olive one is great, I'm sure that colour is officially Dark Olive. Missed out on a similar one last summer that was at £45k also with nice beige interior (top spec and PCCBs, kicking myself now!). Don't think the black wheels work on it, but that could be fixed. Red one nice too, but very budget busting. Good spec black or silver cars typically low/mid £40's!

Ask paragon to get you one, they seem to always have nice 997 turbo stock

I would echo what has been said above...I recently sold my 997 Turbo 2006 v low mileage a car that I cherished for the 3.5 yrs or so I owned it.Was always serviced and looked after by my local OPC. After I sold it I since found out that the DME unit had been remapped and the dealer was told by Porsche Germany they could not warranty it. It had a 111 point check by an OPC before I bought it with the only advisory being 'TPMS sensors need replacing'. That turned out to be completely untrue as they went on for 12k miles and 3 more years (shows how light use the car got)In the meantime, 2 services and other trips to the OPC they told me one day' Sir you know your stone guards are not genuine Porsche items?' (I had matt looking ones on that actually did the job better than the std porsche ones imo) but they did not tell me that my DME unit had been remapped.For those of you thinking what I did when i was told why not just change it back to its original settings I believe it registers permanantly on one of the car's ECU that something has been done...so just make sure you get this all checked before you buy. I had only ever driven 1 other 997 turbo apart from mine and it didn't feel any different but there you are..

Must have been a wk remap if you couldn't tell the difference

Oh dear, and probably on a sticky wicket if you'd had an accident and the fact that the car had been remapped came to light ... would not knowing be a good enough defence?

I'm astonished that the OPC check didn't reveal that it had been remapped. I assume remapping is all software driven, so technically not difficult to go back to 'base settings', though I would expect the ECU to keep a permanent record of changes that have been made.
