For £9 on amazon have just bought an OBD2 connector with USB cable, and for another £32 bought OBDAutoDoctor software for my PC.

Can now do complete scans of the ECU - for £40.

Will also work on any other car post 2001 with the standard OBD2 connector - which I believe is every car...

Would recommend for anyone with modern engine.

Just run it on my LS7. Have a couple of error codes I now need to check out.

It shows water temp, rpm, etc on live basis as well as the error codes.

Good piece of kit for not a lot of £££!

Sounds like a worthwhile investment. Not that I know enough about error codes but could that be due to items that are not connected and not used in an Ultima build but may be on a production LS7 car and would them not being used show as an error? In any case I will be investing in the same.

Good thing to check now and then. I think the engine error codes (as opposed to other items like central locking etc) will be the same. I have one code to investigate but nothing of real concern.

Interesting to compare ECU readings with the Ultima gauges too (revs and water temp). Revs spot on as you would expect. Water 8-10 degrees difference. Presumably the ECU more accurate but also in a different position.

It is possible to delete error codes with your solution?

Yes indeed. Can turn off engine light etc. if you have one (on any car I think).

Also the software allows you to save down codes - though I just jotted them down then cleared it and re-ran it.

it probably wont be very "use model/specific" but at that price its still a decent tool.I have all the modern american manufacturer specific OBD software and most european stuff too, its very useful for resetting service warning lights and other fault warning lights and diagnosing otherwise nightmare electrical problems.

the software I bought will take a signal from a bluetooth OBD2 sensor as long as the pc/ipad/smartphone has bluetooth.

I decided to do go for a USB plug just to be safe. Bluetooth ones are no more money.

To troll crossram back, the Chinese kit has found errors in the American hardware. Go figure.

They are based in Finland I believe.

Hardware may be Chinese, who knows. Are you suggesting the codes it reads will be different from a more expensive piece of kit?

I am sure for £600 or so you might get more functionality, but for £40 I am pretty happy with it.

Its not for tuning or altering settings, purely for reading them.

If the car blows up I'll promise to let the forum know!
